Project 366, Week Twenty-One

perfect pose

Week 21 started well: The Girls and I headed up to town to watch A Monster in Paris with Granny and we had a fabulous time, but boy were we exhausted when we got home. They are currently redesigning Bromley South Station to include lifts and I tell you they cannot come soon enough: I've spent the past four years schlepping pushchairs up and down the stairs to the train and I will be so grateful not to have to do it any more. No doubt by the time … [Read more...]

Mum’s The Work: Pickle Pie Review

perfect Mother's Day Birthday Gift

The wonderful Ladies at Pickle Pie got in touch with me recently after I commented on how fabulous I thought their art was on Ellen's blog. I love it when that happens. Not only that but it turns out that Tracy and Sandra, the two women driving the Pickle Pie machine are Mums, and they are local. So they pretty much ticked three boxes at once: I'm very keen to support independent local business, particularly if it is run-by-Mums because I … [Read more...]

#Cybher 2012, MOO review and my day in business cards

MOO Mini card felt holder

If you tuned in recently, you'll know that I spent an entire day child-free at 8 Northumberland Avenue attending Cybher 2012. I collected Marianne on the way so that I didn't have to walk through the front door on my own. It was a good call, as it happened, because I swear she knew everyone. So I followed her around like a lapdog. And I got to meet some of my blogging idols, some people I'd heard of, and some people who hadn't existed to me … [Read more...]

Introduction to Art: Warhol and the Queen

Queen suncatcher Jubilee

Moving on from the last Introducing Art session, I thought that it would be good to do a project that would coincide with the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations this year, and in my cruising around Pinterest, this work by Hockney seemed to fascinate both of The Girls. So I spent some time one evening working out how we could recreate it. … [Read more...]

britmums live ticket giveaway

*rolls drums* Congratulations to Mrs Johnson Babies, chosen with the help of Random.org this morning, and who may inadvertantly have concussed herself on hearing the news. I think she's pleased. This is what she said: Johnson Babies May 13, 2012 at 10:08 pm · Edit Have tweeted @_johnsonbabies Thanks to all who entered. You know you are all winners in my eyes. If you are still hopeful of winning a ticket, then there are BritMums ticket … [Read more...]

My top five non-alcoholic summer cocktails

how to make non-alcoholic cocktails

The sun is shining, not just in my patch of England, but over the bulk of the country, and the temperatures are warm enough that I have had the misfortune to see several men walking around topless today. It never ceases to amaze me the things that British people do when the sun comes out- it's all so very undignified. No wonder I have been driven to cocktails, even if they are non-alcoholic. I am at my genteel best when the sun comes to visit. … [Read more...]

Monster in Paris at the Institut Francais

accordion player

Would we like to attend a special screening of Monster in Paris at Cine Lumiere? Why yes, of course we would, I replied, from the comfort of my sofa, when I received the email! The reality was a little different: take two tired children, one tired mother, one Granny who hadn't been given any of the details about what we were doing, and the vagaries of the British Transport System and I'm amazed we arrived at all. … [Read more...]
