I remember travelling to London from school to look at works of Art in the big London Galleries. In particular was Rene Magritte's art, featuring bowler hats and famous- to me at least- for appearing in the film The Thomas Crown Affair. I wanted to use the above painting as a basis for an art project with The Girls. When we were looking at his work online, LBG made the excellent point that it looked "like he had cut out the shapes". So that's … [Read more...]
Project 366 week 24
It's been the Back to School week, which begins the Countdown-to-the-holidays at DG Manor. It began with a bang and the urgent need for shoes, as LBG appeared to have grown an entire shoe size in the week that we'd been in France. Then we drove home to Bromley, to the house that had literally been finished hours before we left it to go to France seven days before. It felt like a new home. Everything was so new and clean: the playroom looked … [Read more...]
Cannellini bean stew
We have a French au-pair with us for the next few weeks which means I am cooking for three most nights. I was in the slightly embarrassing position the other day of not actually having planned and therefore found myself hunting around in the freezer at last minute in order to feed us. Comfigrip Steam Shot Spray Iron with Diamond soleplate This extremely powerful Comfigrip Iron … [Read more...]
Dip-dyed children’s pool dresses with Dylon
I always have an issue with holidays. You can't just walk around in a swimsuit when other people are around: it's not polite. But neither do you want to commit yourself to changing 'inside a towel' by the water's edge. The same applies to my children. Last year they had towelling dresses which are too small and they don't seem to keen on new ones because they are too hot. I was in Primark recently when I saw that they had vests on sale for … [Read more...]
On being grown-up
Mrs M wrote a post recently on how to tell you are all grown up... after National newspapers published results of a survey of 2,000 people, which revealed the 50 things that show you are a fully-fledged adult. So I thought I'd take her up on her challenge to see how grown up I am. Source: someecards.com via Domestic on Pinterest 1. Having a mortgage - yes. 2. How to watermark your images with PicMonkey
You've heard of PicMonkey, right? It's the awesome site that has replaced Picnik in my affections since it was swallowed by Google. I use it to edit all my photos now, for the blog and otherwise. It's free and simple to use, and has plenty of features that add pizazz to your pictures. You've probably noticed that a lot of images on blogs and websites are marked in some way with the site from which they originated. Like this one from Red Ted … [Read more...]
