So remember how I made this poured paint watering can after seeing a brilliant post on Dilly Dali art? Well the following day, I saw another fabulous post on dipped paint votives at Nest of Posies. I found a couple of Nutella glasses in the cupboard, combined the two ideas, and made poured paint votives. I also used the same technique on an old compote jar to make a vase to hold some bamboo on DH's window ledge. And a toothbrush holder for … [Read more...]
Easy thank you gifts for teachers
It's nearing the end-of-term and whilst half of me is trembling with fear as 8 weeks of school-free-time stretches in front of me like an abyss, the other half is looking forward to not getting up with the sparrows and screeching at my children to 'hurry-up-we'll-be-late' for a full sixty minutes each day. Oh, and of course, to our House Exchange in Arizona! First however, comes the traditional end-of-year rites-of-passage: Moving Up Day, making … [Read more...]
Upcycled Duck egg cups
I saw the sweetest little ducks in a Charity Shop recently and brought them home. I was sure that they were egg cups but, as my Girls have yet to be convinced that eggs are not the work of the Devil, there is little point in keeping them for that purpose. I had the idea to use them on the dining table as salt and pepper servers, at least once the build has finished and I am in a position to have grown-up dinner parties. I know they would look … [Read more...]
Project 366 Week 26
Sunday on Week 26 saw us travel home from Bruges: another journey through the magic tunnel, another few hours spent happily travelling in silence whilst our Girls watched Barbie on DVD. We had such a wonderful weekend that we are just itching to do it all again. On Monday The Girls went to dancing with The Au Pair whilst I followed on. After a quick turn around at home we headed back into Bromley to watch The Tiger Who Came to Tea at the … [Read more...]
Caribbean Mango Cream
I recently bought a rotary whisk. I thought it would be a great tool to expand The Girls' skills in the kitchen, and other things. Then I subsequently bought two Mangoes with which to make a dessert for the MIL- using the famed Mango corer on it's yearly outing- at the weekend. They definitely weren't Perfectly Ripe, as advertised. But they were perfectly ripe this afternoon. So, I chopped them up, putting as many of the pieces that LBG … [Read more...]
Washi tape Pinboard
I found a roll of corkboard with sticky back in a charity shop a few weeks ago and it's been sitting on the mountain of crap on my desk awaiting a purpose. So recently, when I was having fun with Washi tape, I had a brain wave. On the side of The Girls' wardrobe, above their new bookcase, I fixed the cork in place (NB: that back is VERY sticky. Like stick-to-your-hands-whilst-you-are-trying-to-attach-it-sticky. No wonder it was in a Charity … [Read more...]
Pinspired by: drip painting
A while ago, I saw a brilliant post on Dilly Dali Art about painting pots by pouring paint onto them. As it was it came at about the time that the Girls and I made the Grannies painted flower pots for Easter so we weren't ready to do it again so soon. And then recently I had a sad looking watering can, given to me by Febreze to help grow my Mini-Haven for the 'Great British Sporting Event'. It had been faded by the sun down one side and … [Read more...]
