I'm joining in 'Kids Bloggers Go Olympics' is 18 days of child centered fun! Hosted by RainyDayMum Sun Hats & Wellie Boots & AngeliqueFelix.com After 70 days of travelling the length and breadth of the United Kingdom, carried by a staggering 8000 people, the flame (and the convoy team of approximately 300 people) finally stopped moving at the Opening Ceremony of the Games of the XXX Olympiad ("known informally as London 2012".) … [Read more...]
Around the World in 12 Dishes: Teriyaki Salmon Nuggets
Around the World in 12 Dishes is currently touring Japan. We made some cute little Japanese dolls from pegs last week, but it's time to delve into the world of Japanese food. There are plenty of great things to come out of Japan, Bento boxes in particular. I've bought a whole box full of bits to make cute food with after reading Jill DuBien's amazing site, which is filled with dozens of absolutely brilliant ideas for bite-sized fun finger … [Read more...]
The Day That….
...I got married dawned clear and bright, which was great news because it had snowed during the week and I had visions of us getting married by ourselves because everyone was stranded by the weather. DH and I were a little hungover from the Rehearsal Dinner, hosted at the Royal College of Surgeons the night before. We headed out of our hotel to find a greasy spoon, where I tucked into my last All Day Breakfast as a single woman and DH gingerly … [Read more...]
Easy carrot salad for summer
My mum used to make this salad when we lived overseas. The pace of life as an expat is slightly different from the UK. People are much more likely to have a 'door-always-open' policy, and a 'Potluck Supper' policy. They also have a 'bring-a-salad' policy, which can be very tricky to negotiate. Salad on the face of it is all about the green stuff, and if you are not careful, you end up with twelves bowls of identical salad (ready-made not an … [Read more...]
Roll a sandcastle
At Christmas time, I adapted this Roll-a-Snowman game for The Girls: British snowmen tend to be drawn with two circles, not three, don't you know?! It was a really fun activity and we will definitely do it again this winter. I used cotton make-up remover pads, and a lot of winter-themed stickers to make it easier for The Girls. Recently though, I needed something to keep my Little Misses busy whilst DH and I sorted out the Beach House. So I … [Read more...]
If I were editing 50 Shades of Grey
Yes, I've read it. I've read all three books in the much-talked-about trilogy. Nothing appeals to me more than Mummy Porn. Not that I knew there was Mummy Porn until I started reading 50 Shades of Grey. Who thought that up? It's an annoying categorisation because it does a disservice to those of us who have children. Are we so special, so cotton-wool-brained, that we need our very own brand of porn? Are we not the right readership for real … [Read more...]
Project 366 week 29
The first week of the school holidays is gone, and we've had little time to be still, though mornings have started slightly later and without the sense of urgency that goes hand-in-hand with school mornings. On Sunday, despite the mixed weather, we had a fun hour or two on the beach burying each other in the sand. DH and I actively encouraged graffiti of the sea wall when we realised that LBG could write actual words. All week we've kept asking … [Read more...]
