I am a purist when it comes to ice-cream. With a few exceptions I like vanilla. But I like it best with chocolate fudge sauce. Fortunately for me when I was working in France as teenager I came across the recipe I use to this day. I always have some in a jar in the fridge. These measurements are approximate because I have been making it for so long I have no idea what the original quantities are. I definitely use two bars of chocolate and a … [Read more...]
{Review} Barbie and her sisters in A Pony Tale
It's impossible to explain the excitement in our home at the arrival of a new Barbie DVD in our home. We watch them all the time and, to be honest, the new one is as much a relief as a joy for me: I end up being word-perfect I watch them so often, and find myself humming Barbie-related tunes in deeply inappropriate places. It goes without saying that we were delighted with Barbie™ & Her Sisters in A Pony Tale. It's such a great story: a … [Read more...]
The least spooky pumpkin ever!

Last year, because our girls love hearts more than anything, our Pumpkins looked like this: (That was our door number by the way) That's relevant to pumpkin carving this October because World Vision are asking you to carve a heart into a pumpkin this Halloween and display it in your window as a lantern … [Read more...]
Only skin deep: how a photo shoot made me realise that I am beautiful

All the other mums rock up at the school gates looking slim and together and fabulous and I sort of slink in at the back not really minding whether I am noticed or not if I am … [Read more...]
{Recipe} Spiced Currant Buns
I have learned, living miles from a supermarket, to always have bread mixes to hand in case of unexpected bread shortage or extra guest arrivals. I am sure that it is just as easy and cheaper to measure your own, but there is always a place for a pre-measured bread mix in my home and it does away with the need to mess around with yeast. A few extra ingredients and you can have currant buns that are perfect for tea time in no time at … [Read more...]
{October} Saturday Review
The Fine Coffee Club sent some of their new look capsules for us to try in our Nespresso machine, along with some delicious biscotti. The biscotti went very well with some of the new coffee flavours such as the Lungo, which was my favourite. My girls loved the brightly coloured capsules and have numerous craft plans for them so they will get recycled. The packaging is definitely an improvement on their old style. But I still found the capsule to … [Read more...]
Take a fresh look at the new look Tesco Finest range
I was recently invited to London to a secret location where I was plied with the Finest food and wine. The Tesco Finest range, which first hit our shelves fifteen years ago, has had a nip and a tuck and some slick new packaging. There are 1500 reasons for trying the range, but I'm going to give you ten reasons for taking a fresh look at the new look Finest range: 1. Mushrooms: foragers go out at dawn to hunt down the choicest … [Read more...]
