Rainbow birthday crown

Quilled card rainbow birthday crown

You may recall a couple of years ago that Dimples had a wonderfully colourful rainbow birthday party which was loved by all who came. Now that we are past Christmas the first family Event on the horizon is her fourth birthday party. This year the theme is Dora the Explorer, with a bit of craft and lots of fun thrown in, I hope. You'll see some posts about this fairly soon. But I'm starting with the birthday crown for her actual birthday, which … [Read more...]

Apple Rosti pancakes

apple rosti pancakes

I don't know whether you have this issue but my children ask for an apple, promise to eat the whole thing and then hand me half of it back ten minutes later saying that they are full. There aren't that many uses for a half-eaten apple but I think I've found one that works well. A few store-cupboard ingredients and you can have a delicious breakfast or post-school treat. Using Decals to decorate a girl’s bedroom

girls bedroom before and after

You would be forgiven for thinking that we moved house to avoid a) having build work and b) decorating The Girls' bedroom. I promised LBG a long time ago that she could get her bedroom redecorated when Dimples moved in with her. The move, ironically, led to them being separated- and us having build work- so now I have two bedrooms to decorate. In fact a whole house to decorate. I started small with the Guest Loo makeover, the wallpaper for … [Read more...]

Pork Belly with orange and sweet chilli on a bed of potatoes

Chilli Orange Pork Belly

I was searching the internet for inspiration recently- I had Pork Belly Slices to cook for supper- when I came across Nigella (of course!) She gave me the idea for putting the pork belly on a bed of potatoes. Which put me in mind of an episode of Nigella Express I saw over Christmas in which she kept bunging meat to marinade in a ziplock bag. Heck, I thought, I can do that. So I did. I used classic flavours with my pork belly, bunged it all in … [Read more...]

Have you heard of Honkopoly?

Team honk

"This one time, on the Team Honk Relay..."  In all likelihood this is a phrase that you will be hearing a lot in the future. The Holy Trinity of Annie, Tanya and Penny that brought us Postcards from Ghana, and climbing Snowdon with red pants on your head last year have joined forces with the evil genius that is Sports Relief with a plan so daring, so awesome, so utterly crazy that I had to be a part of it. Under the banner of Team … [Read more...]

Melted Candy Cane Lollipops

candy cane lollipops

I wanted to make some shapes with melted candy canes the other day. I saw post before Christmas that gave me the idea. But I had a bit of a craft fail, which resulted in some pretty Melted Candy Cane Roses that i shared on Red Ted Art's blog. This gave me the idea to melt the crushed candy canes in a mould. Which didn't work either. Whatevs. I scooped up the gloop that slipped out from the mould when I took it off too early, using a … [Read more...]
