Last year I hosted a Tupperware party, which went down a storm , if only for all the wrong reasons. The Tupperware lady was, to be blunt, a complete nutter and I found myself kicking her out at 11.30pm because she just didn't want to leave. That said the Tupperware shape-sorter (whose design doesn't appear to have changed since I had one as a child) I bought for the Pocket Dictator for Christmas has finally turned out to be Toy-of-the-Week, so … [Read more...]
Friday Night is Hedgehog Night
The Supportive Fellow Mum (SFM) had a birthday this week. She got flowers and chocolates and an evening out sans enfants, which is not to be sniffed at when you have 17-month-old twins. I scored a PD- free morning later in the week and the Giant Chocolate Buttons I picked up in Waitrose led me down a Retro path to birthday-cakes-past. I figured it might be worth getting some practice in, with only 5 months until PD has her next birthday, and … [Read more...]
The stain game
I am being genuine when I say I love ironing. Once upon a time it was the element of getting something perfectly flat and smooth and beautifully folded or hung that I loved, along with the smell of freshly ironed things. Now I love the illicit TV watching, by which I mean utter crap I have Sky plussed especially to watch whilst ironing since I would not be caught dead watching it otherwise (my Four Weddings thing started thus), and the yummy … [Read more...]

Peggy at A Mother's Secrets is compiling stories about pregnancy lows, so I thought I'd share mine:I hated DH, who wasn't DH at that point (by which I mean he wasn't my husband rather than he wasn't my darling) for making me learn to drive. I hated the lessons, though he found me an annoyingly nice teacher, hated the car he bought just so I could learn to drive, hated the driving he made me do every evening when he got home from work. I … [Read more...]
Big Brown response
I recently wrote about the Reciprocal Childcare Agreement that had hit the news after Ofsted, in their infinite wisdom, decided it was illegal and asked you to sign an online petition. The government have posted a response to the petition, stating:The Childcare Act 2006 requires anyone providing ‘childcare for reward’ to register with Ofsted, with the aim of ensuring every child in a commercial childcare service is safe and well cared for. … [Read more...]
Winter Pavlova
The oven we inherited from the former owners of our house is refusing to die, and whilst it clings stubbornly to life, it continues to cook things in unpredictable fashion, which rather makes any attempts at baking quite risky. A very simple tart I made a few weeks ago with some of the masses of Blackberries we have in our garden was burned to a frustrating crisp in under 10 minutes (and at 150, which is very low for puff pastry.) The net result … [Read more...]
A new development
I shall be preparing a new bedroom for the arrival of Baby Deux, who is due at the end of February. I'm hoping the nesting instinct will kick in sooner rather than later as I really need to get back to being an Aspiring Domestic Goddess. … [Read more...]
