As ever, Tara at The Gallery has laid down the Gauntlet: I was up for hours last night trying to come up with a good entry for the Before and After topic. This is the result:Philadelphia Zoo in September. Believe it or not, these shots were taken ten minutes apart. The Hare must have had a pretty substantial nap to be beaten by the Tortoise..... … [Read more...]
Banana Bread and the ongoing pink bathroom saga.
Banana Bread is a very good place to start if you are new to baking. It's also a good way to use up over-ripe bananas that have been thrown around a bit by your lovely almost-nine-month-old. The Pocket Dictator and I rolled up our sleeves and put on our aprons this afternoon to get busy and keep warm whilst Bathroom Guy caught up on his work. We are now into Week 3, though this is nothing to do with their inadequacies, but more to do with the … [Read more...]
You’ve heard of Sod’s Law, well this isToddler Law
Toddler's Law Number 1, which states that: whichever direction you want to go in, the Toddler shall instinctively want to go in the opposite direction. … [Read more...]
Why you should wear your poppy.
It's been a long evening. The sort of evening that you have as a parent where it seems that every ten minutes either I or the DH are running up the stairs to sort out a crying child. It's exhausting because, apart from the physical exertion of 'step class', you can't do anything. You can't spend time together watching Grand Designs. You can't catch up on each other's days. You can't talk excitedly about your new business idea. You can't pack up … [Read more...]
The Gallery: Seasons of mist and mellow fruitfulness
(at least I think that's how the poem goes...)It's Wednesday once more, which means The Gallery. The challenge this week is The Seasons- Tara wants us to show her what we are experiencing whilst she is experiencing autumn. Sadly, I'm experiencing Autumntoo. This morning the rain was pounding down on the Wet Room (aka Utility Room, so called because when it rains, it gets wet) roof and I honestly thought we would have snow before the end of the … [Read more...]
The list is long, but distinguished: my life in pushchairs.
The Zapp Xtra has been taking up space in our hallway for a month. I say 'taking up space' but it's hardly enormous and, when parked next to the Nipper Double, it's barely noticeable, and after a mere month and many (many) miles along pavements, roads and beaches, I'm not entirely sure I remember life before it.Those who know me will tell you that I am a pushchair-holic and a change-bag-holic. I know that, after 6 pushchairs and a similar number … [Read more...]
Masterchef: the Professionals bites Reality TV’s ass.
I am not a fan of 'Reality TV'. I cannot bear the suspense, the drama, the angst, the unbearable, cringeworthiness of it all. Fundamentally, I dislike all that makes it worth watching. And it's not just programs like Big Brother, X-factor and I'm a Celebrity, it's anything which you might have a vested interest in. So when, for example, the Rugby World Cup was on a few years ago, I had to watch the significant matches from under the duvet-cover, … [Read more...]
