Dear 2011: a letter to the year ahead
With apologies to Kat at 3 Bedroom Bungalow....Dear 2011,I don't know how well you know 2010. Frankly, I'm hoping that you two weren't that close, since I have very little to say about her that isn't unpleasant. 2010 was not the nicest of years as far as I could tell. It's been a jolly long 365 days in her company. I've had plenty of sleepless nights, some caused of course by the new addition to our family, but many others caused by worry, … [Read more...]
Zapptastic: is the Quinny Zapp Xtra better than the Quinny Zapp Original?
The Zapp was brought to market as the smallest folded pushchair available. It’s what made me buy one. I liked the idea that you could put it in a bag and get on a plane with it. (In actual fact I’ve never been allowed to just walk it on the plane: I suspect I needed to be holding a First Class ticket to do that.) I much preferred it in terms of design to the cheaper Petit Star Zia, though an obvious shortfall was the inability of the Zapp to … [Read more...]
Tefal Actifry: Perfect chips without the frying
Did you know that you could cook Spaghetti Bolognese in a fat-fryer? Or Pork Satay? I didn't either. In my head at least, fat fryer are things that burn down houses, featuring in the Public Safety films of the early 1980's and living on in my nightmares. They smell greasy and unpleasant and make you … [Read more...]
Our Zapp-tastic Adventure: What the Grannies thought of the Zapp Xtra
The Quinny Zapp Xtra is, as you will know if you are on Facebook friend, a permanent fixture in our lives. You could say that it’s revolutionised our lives: since I took delivery in October I have started reducing rather than expanding, the collection of pushchairs at DG Manor. It’s testament to the fact that the little Zapp Xtra is designed with our life in mind that I use it in preference to a number of others that I bought for specific … [Read more...]

My Christmas Message
It's not been the best year. I started 2010 housebound, trapped inside by snow, pregnancy and SPD. I was in unbearable pain, resenting the baby I was carrying, frustrated with myself for feeling such resentment and self-pity. Even when Dimples arrived, the pain didn't stop, the resentment didn't go away, the frustration lingered. And so I wallowed in misery, struggled with a newborn and a toddler and tears that refused to cease. I hardly felt … [Read more...]
