I had one of those moments over the weekend that has left me questioning myself. DH and I took the children to a cafe that we regularly go to, for lunch. It was a little later than usual as the children had been asleep in the pushchair so they weren't on the best form. There was a spilt drink and the usual bits and pieces on the floor that come with feeding a two-year-old and a nearly-one-year-old. We did, as we always do, pick up the worst from … [Read more...]

A good year: my goals for a better 2011
I have never been one to write resolutions, since I always fail at the first hurdle and by the end of January I'm ready to give up on life altogether and become a hermit in the Scottish Highlands so that no-one will ever have to endure the company of Our-Lady-Of-Perpetual-Misery-and-Shame that I would become by February 1st. Except that I don't know where the Highlands are, and am fairly sure I wouldn't like them since they are a) high, which … [Read more...]
I read books once. Now I have small children.
It wasn't so long ago that I hated the very notion of Twitter. It was short and pithy and fast, so very fast, that I had no idea how to keep up. A few weeks down the line, I still have no idea how people keep up, but to be honest, Twitter is about all I read at the moment. Between school runs and crying children, errands and cooking suppers there is barely time to go to the loo, so to deal with no more than 140 characters in one hit is all I can … [Read more...]
BMB Carnival: the Good Life
The Good Life is hosting the fortnightly #BMB Carnival with the theme of The Good Life. I assume that this particular theme didn't take a vast amount of thinking about on her part, but it has on mine. I couldn't really boil down the rapidly mushrooming thoughts in my head to describe the essence of the Good Life as I see it. It also made me hum the Theme Tune and call the DH Gerry for the rest of the evening. I even dug out the dress I wore for … [Read more...]
A Zapp around the world or how I avoided filing my Tax Return today.
January is often a bleak time. There's the bad weather, the frequent illness, the trying to balance the books after Christmas and of course the Tax Return. I should have been doing mine today. Instead DH and I got a bit carried away with a new shipment of Duplo which, incidentally, fits perfectly into the hamper that my divine Ferrero Rocher goodies came in. So, thanks to Who's the Mummy, we no longer stumble-trip across the sitting room with a … [Read more...]
The Gallery: Children
Tara said she had a gift for us this week with her Gallery theme. I imagine that the unbearable amount of nakedness a fortnight ago forced her to review topics and, given that a large part of her audience are parent-bloggers (sorry, Dads, but Mummy Bloggers does roll off the tongue a lot easier), I can see why. My issue is not the lack of choice, it's the gaping chasm of possibilities that stretch in front of me when you mention the word … [Read more...]
