Who’s the Mamma?

Muddling Along Mummy wrote an interesting post recently about the assumption that everyone on the internet is just like you, in which she said: But there are people I look at on the internet and I think ‘what?????’ Like the ladies on twitter who describe themselves purely as someone’s mother and someone’s wife – where are you? Where is your identity?  Do you exist only as a reflection of someone else?  And no I don’t tend to follow them. I … [Read more...]

Three by Nine, 38DD, 5 ft 5in…

I have been tagged by Nova at Cherished by Me, for which I thank her deeply. She must have done a lot of research to realise that I had thus far been forgotten avoided such an honour.   Anyhow, now I have been tagged, I have to answer the following questions and then tag others to do the same : Three names I go by: Darling, Mamma, Mrs Kelly Three places I have lived: Cairo, Bromley, Frankfurt Three places I have worked: … [Read more...]

Remembering doesn’t stop just because it’s not Remembrance Day

Somebody pointed out to me today that I shouldn't be wearing my poppy. It's not November, they said. You don't need to wear it.   It's not November, I repeated. I don't need to wear it.   It's not November. Yet there are British men and women in Iraq, Afghanistan and now over Libya. They don't need to wear a poppy because they can't forget: conflict is their life. Their families, trying to get on with life at home and … [Read more...]

Anti-ageing Zabaglione

When I was in Upper Sixth our Small Common Room was turned into a library/dining room. I think the Housemaster was trying to stop it being used as a dumping ground, but he encouraged us nevertheless to make use of the facility so we decided to host a Dinner Party. Naturally we went with Italian, being the sophisticated young things that we were (that, and the fact that Italian is often budget-friendly and easy-to-cook) and we sallied forth into … [Read more...]

Well start parent software

I am far from the most techno savvy person, and I had to be talked into trying the Wellstart Parenting software. But I'm so very pleased that I did try it, because it's some pretty clever stuff. The software has been designed by experienced GPs and parents rather than techno-geeks with their eye on the next big thing, so it actually does what it says on the tin and provides really useful tools to parents, parents-to-be and people who are trying … [Read more...]
