Five things I don’t want my daughters to know about me

The issue I have with the prompt by Ella from Notes at Home this week is that my mother reads my blog. There are always things you don't want your children to know about you and, given that they are as yet too young to read and use the interweb, I am confident that, were I to share my deepest personal embarassments with the entire world via the blogging medium, I would have time to edit the information. But my mother can read (in the right … [Read more...]

Red White and Blue Cupcakes for ForeverNigella #4: Street Party

I am regularly challenged, from the moment I wake up, by my children. But when they are asleep or playing nicely, as they are sometimes beginning to do, I find myself challenged instead by Saint Nigella of Lawson. I should point out that whilst Ms Lawson may have some awareness of Maison Cupcake’s almost stalker-like nature, she is not directly responsible for the #ForeverNigella Challenge that Sarah issues forth every month. She should be … [Read more...]

If tomorrow never comes…

will you curse my name for leaving you to deal with life by yourself? will you question everything about me? will you replay over and over the times that I didn't listen to you? Didn't help you? Didn't support you?   If tomorrow never comes will you remember the feel of me, even when the dent in the bed has gone? will you smell the bottles on the bathroom shelf and conjure up an image of me? will you hear a song on the radio and weep … [Read more...]

A Right Royal Wedding: how to make Will and Kate from Champagne corks

How to make Will and Kate from Champagne corks! If you live within the borders of the British Isles you are likely to know that we have an extra Bank Holiday at the end of the month in honour of a certain Royal Wedding. I haven’t been invited, but that’s to be expected as Wills has never forgiven me for marrying DH, and in St Paul’s Cathedral too. Poor Wills has had to make do with Westminster Abbey. I’m glad I haven’t been invited, if I’m … [Read more...]

I’m MAD material

The Inaugural MAD awards sound like they were a blast. I am deeply jealous of anyone who was even nominated, never mind the attendees, primarily because I was breastfeeding a small baby and therefore strung out on a mad blend of hormones, lack of sleep and Toddler-induced rage, a result of daily negotiations with the Pocket Dictator over absolutely everything. All of which makes me the ideal candidate to attend this year's event: I am MAD. Stark … [Read more...]

Flashing and teething

Dimples has been up during the night of late. She’s cutting teeth, poor thing. She’s done incredibly well with the two teeth she’s had up until now and although the nights are hard work, I’m really glad she’s getting more teeth so that she can enjoy gnawing on lots of the delicious fruits that will shortly be coming into season. It has reminded me that I need to take her to the dentist: absurd though it is, she can’t be registered at our … [Read more...]
