"Whatever you do, don't check with Dr Google." I've read that advice online quite a lot. Yet, the last couple of times I have been to my local doctor with an issue outside of the ordinary, the first question I was asked by the practitioner if I had Googled my symptoms. I always have a quandary with anything medical. I don't want to be the person castigated on the evening news for calling 999 because I had a splinter I couldn't get out of my … [Read more...]
A Retro Approach to Saving #MySaverStory
I was paid in cash for my very first job, being based overseas pre-Euro and not having a local bank account. Every month I would get Deutschmarks in cash and tuck them into an envelope in my underwear drawer. I took out bits and pieces as I needed it but in theory, I was saving the bulk of the money I earned towards the expenses I would have in my first year at University. In actual fact I blew the whole of my University Savings on a trip to … [Read more...]
Tesco Mum of the Year 2014 Shortlist
My Saturday nights are taken up with watching Strictly Come Dancing. LBG, Dimples and I curl under the blanket on the sofa to be dazzled and amazed by the calibre of the dancing and the spectacle of the show, lighting and costumes. The bit that I like least is knowing that someone will get voted off: everyone works so hard on their routine and puts such effort in. I would hate to have to chose between two such dancers every week. I cannot imagine … [Read more...]

This, in turn, means that it is likely to be the last room standing. I have … [Read more...]
Royal Baby Card Craft: fingerprint babies
To celebrate the impending arrival of the world's most famous baby- check out the #royalbabywatch online- The Girls and I have been dipping our fingers in paint and making a Royal Baby Card craft. They have always been mad about Will and Catherine and still play with my cork Royal Couple regularly, so the news that there would be a Royal Baby means they have been playing Royal Babies for the past few weeks. It was a natural progression, given … [Read more...]

The countdown to summer holidays
The countdown has begun for us: we're into the second half of summer term and I am madly trying to plan things to keep The Girls occupied for the nine weeks that they get. Our actual holiday- the one DH has booked time off for- has been in the diary for nine months. We are very excited to be heading to Norway to camp in the night-time sun. The Girls are less enthused. They have friends who have booked a great August holiday this year: they've … [Read more...]
