********** "Oh Dad, you just don't get it, do you?" LBG, with patronising tone, to her father. ********** Dimples, on watching carrots cooking: "What's it going to be?" "Carrots, darling." "Oh. Not chocolate?" ********** "Oh no, not the cooked pears. I'm not available to enjoy them." LBG ********** At bedtime: "Mamma, I'm really not sure I shall be able to eat breakfast in the morning. My tummy isn't feeling well." LBG ********** … [Read more...]
20 great Valentine’s Card ideas and {how to} print Valentine’s cards with styrofoam
After the success of our Christmas card printing, LBG suggested that we used the same technique to make Valentine's Cards. She will draw a heart on pretty much anything, so this is a great outlet for her talents. One of my greatest triumphs as a parent has been to teach her how to draw hearts. In the first weeks of term she came home in deep despair because her friends could draw hearts and she couldn't. So we took some time to look at how the … [Read more...]
{Review} Knole Park with children
Moneysupermarket.com and Tots100 are on the hunt for Britains Best Family Days Out and gave us the chance to visit a National Trust property of our choice. We used to be National Trust members, but lapsed once the Dimples arrived and it was enough to get us all out of the house before dusk, so the chance to visit an NT property thrilled me. There's something very reassuring and British about their properties, which are dotted far and wide across … [Read more...]
Things to do in Prague with children

If you fancy doing a little more, or you aren't in Prague at Christmas, here are a few ideas for things to do if you are visiting the Czech capital with young … [Read more...]
Roll a Reindeer
The Roll-a-Reindeer idea came off the back of my summer roll-a-sandcastle craft which was a big hit with my Girls. It's one of those incredibly versatile games that helps with numeracy and co-ordination, so it's the perfect thing for long winter nights. I simply cut the necessary shapes from felt, and used an A5 felt piece to stick the pieces onto: by using felt it made the game reusable, which is ideal for Dimples, who begged to play … [Read more...]
Our Advent Activity Calendar 2012- now with added linky!
Last year I followed an idea I'd seen for an Advent Activity Calendar. It was their first Advent Calendar and worked really well for us: in addition to them getting a treat every day, we got to do a fun activity or craft that really cemented the notion that Christmas was more than simply gifts. And so I have put together a similar calendar for this year, including activities that I have already booked that the children don't know about. We are … [Read more...]
How to make a Gingerbread House from a cardboard box
We got back from the school run last Monday to find a rather large delivery. The large delivery was, in itself, very dull. But it came in a large box with a lot of bubblewrap. So, after lunch, we put the box- along with a second smaller, document box- to good use and made a Gingerbread House. … [Read more...]
