We've had a big weekend in the DG household: Dimples turned the big 4. She requested a Dora Craft party. She was very specific about the crafts and the guests and the food. But less so about the decor. Which gave me a bit of a challenge because this is not a house that lends itself to easy party decorating: some of the party would take place in the kitchen, the family room, the hallway, the corridor, the sitting room. Then a parcel arrived … [Read more...]
Secret Centre Love Cupcakes
Valentine's Day doesn't mean spending lots of money on showy gifts. It means taking the time to think about your loved one and do something special for them. In our case, DH and The Girls donned their aprons to demonstrate their love by baking Secret Centre Love Cupcakes, a phrase coined by my gorgeous girls because "they look like love- pink and sprinkly and so delicious and they have a secret surprisey middle bit". I don't know where they get … [Read more...]
Project 365: January 2014
In the year that the Olympics came to London I joined in Project 366. It was hard work but I joined The Boy and Me's linky every week and felt a tremendous sense of achievement at the end of the year. It changed the way I take pictures: it made me take pictures every day and not worry so much about the detail. It made me document the little things, the every day moments that make us the family that we are. I missed joining … [Read more...]
A weekend in London with Tots 100
I received an email whilst on holiday this summer telling me that we had won a weekend break in London with Tots100 and Sealife. It was such a shock to find that our picture of fish, made so long ago and such a treasured memory, had won. And so in November we took the train to London for a night at the Marriott County Hall and a host of wonderful treats. First was the London Eye. I spent the time welded to the middle seat praying the … [Read more...]
Candy Cane Horse: Year of the Horse
At the end of January it's time for Chinese New Year. As I was taking down the Christmas Tree the other day it occurred to me that you could make such a cute little Horse for Chinese Year of the Horse using the candy canes and a few bits of felt. I used the candy cane as a template and drew around it, then used that as the basis for a template. I traced around the template and cut out a pair of horses heads. Then I sewed the pair of felt … [Read more...]
When we went to visit Harrods Santa 2013
When we were invited to visit Santa's Grotto at Harrod's, I confess I got the giggles out of sheer joy. It's the kind of thing you imagine that a child would love: a big department store Santa with all the bells and whistles, that would really solidify the Christmas Magic in your child's heart and memory. A friend was less encouraging "I took my child to Harrod's last year, and it was terrible. A real waste of money." she said. But I had … [Read more...]
Dress with Tesco this Christmas
Because I have two girls, I find that whenever I get one something, the other wants exactly the same thing. It's a frustration that I hope they will grow out of. Except when it comes to clothes. Secretly, you see, I quite like them when they wear matching dresses. It's adorable in a slightly kitsch way, makes people say "Oh how sweet!" or similar and- and I do find this a total bonus- makes them much much easier to spot when we are out and … [Read more...]
