There are so many bananas in our fruit bowl that have been going over before The Girls can be persuaded to eat them, so I put a call out on twitter for a banana cake recipe and Camilla from Fab Food 4 All sent me to her delicious Banana Cake recipe. Obviously I made a couple of changes to what is her mum's banana cake recipe: the note that Golden Caster sugar made the cake more 'fudgey' made me think of how much DH loves fudge. So I dug … [Read more...]
Leftover Chicken Taquitos with Peanut Dipping Sauce
I recently had the good fortune to attend a Chinese Cooking Masterclass given by Hannah Hayes from China Feast to celebrate the launch of Amoy Premium Soy Sauce. It was a busy class which covered everything from the best way to cook your Egg Fried Rice- you have to squish the egg in a plastic bag then add the rice and squish that too- to making your own Chili Oil. I also had an interesting lesson in the making of Soy Sauce- likened to … [Read more...]
Eric and Ernie Golden Syrup Cake #cbias
Have you noticed a big yellow hot thing in the sky lately? I'm told it's the 'sun'. I have discovered an allergy to this 'sun' which means I have been sneezing and sniffing all weekend long. To cheer my germ-ridden self up, and because #CBias asked me to take a trip to my local supermarket baking aisle- like I need an excuse-, I thought I would bake a cake. Shaped like this 'sun'. I popped to my local Waitrose to grab the … [Read more...]
Cheese Gougeres, chocolate fondue and Gateau au Yaourt.
Bonjour mes petits! This month the Around the World trip is stopping off in France, home to my other family and so many places and people that are close to my heart. We eat croissants and pain-au-chocolat fairly regularly, so I thought we'd try some of the other foods from the land of fine food and great wine. Firstly we had friends round for tea and made a quick chocolate sauce from chocolate, butter, golden syrup and evaporated milk. It's my … [Read more...]
Fried Egg Biscuits
I love the simplicity of these Fried Egg Biscuits but they do look very striking on the plate. I initially made them as an Easter treat but the more I look at them, the more I think they'd make a great April Fool's. This really is an easy recipe. Firstly, I followed the divine Utterly Scrummy's recipe for Vanilla Biscuits- I used half the amount- to make my biscuit dough. Then you need to separate off about a quarter of the dough and colour … [Read more...]
Irish Colcannon
Colcannon is a traditional Irish Dish made from potatoes and cabbage. There's more to it than that obviously but these are the two prime ingredients. When we were in Galway during half-term, it seemed that every meal we ate was served with mashed potatoes so I'm guessing that the Irish and Potatoes still go hand-in-hand despite the years since the Potato Famine that sent so many across the seas to America in search of a better life. My … [Read more...]
Leftover Vegetable Empanadas
There is always food left over after a meal in our house: between the unpredictable appetites (and palates) of our Girls and the unpredictable hours (and palate) of the DH, a significant portion of our food gets fed to the dog or the compost bin. And the portion that doesn't needs to be 're-modelled' to suit the delicate palates of my beloved family. Generally speaking, there are three simple rules when it comes to leftovers in our house: Put … [Read more...]
