Washi tape Pinboard

washi pinboard tutorial

I found a roll of corkboard with sticky back in a charity shop a few weeks ago and it's been sitting on the mountain of crap on my desk awaiting a purpose. So recently, when I was having fun with Washi tape, I had a brain wave.   On the side of  The Girls' wardrobe, above their new bookcase, I fixed the cork in place (NB: that back is VERY sticky. Like stick-to-your-hands-whilst-you-are-trying-to-attach-it-sticky. No wonder it was in a Charity … [Read more...]

No sew ribbon-trimmed cafe curtain

finished no sew blind

When we moved in to our house, we inherited the 'choice' colour schemes of the previous owners. Not for them the House-Doctor-Style-neutral-throughout-to-appeal-to-the-buyers, they kept their bold colour choices and sale be damned. Obviously this worked in our favour, since there were a few months between us having to withdraw our initial offer (our sale fell through) and us being back in a position to buy, and no-one else thought to snap it up … [Read more...]

How to make a Barbie House from an Ikea Expedit bookshelf

Bookcase into Barbie house

How to make a Barbie House from an Ikea Expedit bookshelf. We have had an Ikea Expedit 4x4 book case for a while: I bought it to house LBG's bedroom toys when the Dimpled Assassin arrived. The combination of toddler toys and baby toys lead to a bedroom overflow of 'special things' that LBG wasn't keen on sharing with her vomity little sister or, at that point, her friends. So I bought one and it lived in her room until Dimples moved … [Read more...]

Introduction to Art: Warhol and the Queen

Queen suncatcher Jubilee

Moving on from the last Introducing Art session, I thought that it would be good to do a project that would coincide with the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations this year, and in my cruising around Pinterest, this work by Hockney seemed to fascinate both of The Girls. So I spent some time one evening working out how we could recreate it. … [Read more...]

Union Jack Jubilee Wreath

easy jubilee wreath

I had some Union Jack napkins left over from my Royal wedding party, and with the Queen coming to Bromley as part of her Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, I thought I should put them to good use decorating our front door to match the Jubilee Bunting that we had already made. Taking the Spring Wreath I made a few weeks ago, I stripped it back to the crepe paper, wrapping it in an additional layer of red. Once the base layer was done, I could get to … [Read more...]

Quick and Easy Jubilee Bunting

Union Jack Jubilee Bunting

The Queen is visiting Bromley tomorrow. The High Street is decked with bunting and the shop windows are suitably bestowed in Red, White and Blue. Our Road will be closed from around 8am so the fact that we have no car plays little part in whether or not LBG will make it to Kindergarten. As we have been at home due to the changeable (read 'wet') British Weather, The Girls and I thought that our house ought to carry some decoration, in case The … [Read more...]

Decoupage Ikea Lazy Susan

Mod Podge Lazy Susan

Last time I was in Ikea, I bought a Lazy Susan. I've wanted one for years but DH has always turned me down but with mealtimes involving a lot more "Daddy, can you pass this? Mamma can you pass that? More ketchup please...." I worked on the basis that he would get over it. It looked a little functional for my liking- I'm never going to have a minimalist household am I?- so I decided it needed some attention. So, I took some of my Doily Stash … [Read more...]
