There are always jars in our home: we get through a lot of jam, pickle and chutney and though I make a lot of these things too, to refill them, I always have a few jars lying around without purpose. This time of year, my mind drifts towards Christmas and Gift Giving. It's nice to have a few gifts ready made 'just in case' and the humble jar is the perfect tool to have in your arsenal. Some things I often give as Gifts in a Jar are: Chocolate … [Read more...]
Home Craft: Charity Shop cast off and Guest Loo make-over
The thing about a new house is that- generally speaking- you move out of a house that is exactly how you want it to be and into a house that isn't. Meaning you spend the days and weeks after the boxes are all unpacked itching to get something, anything, to be exactly as you want it to be. Any small corner, will do. It's just to give you something to hold up in the months ahead of wallpaper-stripping and furniture-revamping as a beacon of hope for … [Read more...]
Bedroom planning starts with a bed
Since we first saw our house before the summer, DH and I have been daydreaming about what the rooms would look like when we had them decorated to our tastes, and we started with the master bedroom. I suspect that this is partly because it needs a significant amount of work tho transform it from the study that it once was into the Master Suite we have always dreamed of. This, in turn, means that it is likely to be the last room standing. I have … [Read more...]
A good night’s sleep starts with a good duvet
I've written before about how my bed would be my Desert Island luxury: there is nothing that cannot be fixed by a couple of hours sandwiched between sheet and duvet, particularly when life gives you the mother of all headaches. A hotel is always more welcoming if the bed is good, even camping can be improved with the right duvet and pillow, though it makes packing the car more challenging. The thing is, having just moved house, we are at sixes … [Read more...]
{Back to School} Pimp my hair bands
My children both attend a school with a fairly rigorous uniform list. The colours are specified right down to what the children wear in their hair. This was challenging enough in their last school, whose colours were yellow and grey- not colours that could be bought off the shelf from all good uniform retailers, it would seem- but from September their colours are purple and grey or black. I do not know a single five-year-old girl who considers … [Read more...]
Royal Baby Cookie Pops
Hot on the heels of our sweet little Royal Baby Welcome Cards, and whilst we await the arrival of the #royalbaby, come the Royal Baby Cookie Pops. The Girls suggested that I make them "some cookies that are babies too." They wanted Royal Ones But frankly I didn't have any yellow fondant icing, so instead I made Baby Cookie Pops as a tribute to the imminent arrival of the World's Most Famous Baby*. They are fairly simple. Honestly. I used my … [Read more...]
Creating a New Home Wreath from cleaning supplies
I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias and their client. A friend moved house recently and I wanted to bring her a gift that didn't require eating, or a vase. She's just had a baby, and I was reminded of a beautiful bouquet I received when LBG was born that was made from socks and booties and useful things. Then last week … [Read more...]
