Glitter Heart Cake Toppers

glitter glue heart cake topper

If you are a regular reader you will know that before Christmas I made some hot glue and glitter snowflakes to hang on our tree, based on the original idea from Aunt Peaches. Ahead of the Red Ted Art Valentine's Craft Hangout, I adapted the idea to make some Hot Glue Heart- Shaped cake toppers. Here's how: Using your hot glue gun, pipe out a heart shape onto silicone baking sheet. Sprinkle with glitter and wait until cool. When cold, turn … [Read more...]

Candy Cane Horse: Year of the Horse

Candy Cane Horse

At the end of January it's time for Chinese New Year. As I was taking down the Christmas Tree the other day it occurred to me that you could make such a cute little Horse for Chinese Year of the Horse using the candy canes and a few bits of felt. I used the candy cane as a template and drew around it, then used that as the basis for a template. I traced around the template and cut out a pair of horses heads. Then I sewed the pair of felt … [Read more...]

Christmas Character Corks

cork Christmas Characters

It's no secret that I love making things from corks and I'm lucky that I have quite a few Champagne corks to hand when I need them. The Cork Nativity that I made a few years ago is still doing great service but I wanted a few new cork characters this Christmas and came up with Santa after being inspired by Red Ted Art Cork Santa. Santa obviously lead to a reindeer and on to a snowman. Then LBG suggested a 'girl' which is how we came to have … [Read more...]

Gifts for teacher: Christmas Bark

Sparkly Christmas Bark a delicious chocolate treat

Disclaimer: I am not advocating giving your child's- or even your- teacher a sound, or a lump of tree.  I have read a lot about something called 'bark' which is not, so far as I am aware, a thing in the UK. Yet. Now that I have made it I think I may have to bring the whole concept to your attention. If ever there were a simple, pretty and tasty treat that is easy to make for teachers, doctors, nurses, bin men, lollipop persons, neighbours, … [Read more...]

Hot glue and glitter Snowflake ornament

glue gun snowflake bauble

This really is a wonderfully simple festive craft inspired by the most amazing craft blogger- Aunt Peaches. Earlier in the year she shared a post on how to make a confetti cake topper which is, I think you will agree, a fabulous craft. It was an idea that I tucked away in my head (and on Pinterest) with a view to making later in the year. And then, when I was working out ideas for our Christmas Ornament Craft , the confetti cake topper came … [Read more...]

Hamp it up: alternatives to the traditional Christmas Hamper

gardening hamper

Hampers are a very traditional part of Christmas. As a child I clearly remember hoping that one day a basket-shaped parcel would land on our doorstep filled with treats for us to enjoy. Now that I am grown I have come to realise that it doesn't have to come in a basket to be called a Hamper. A Hamper is just an expression for a collection of gifts with one theme that you can give to your nearest and dearest in the season of giving, rather than … [Read more...]

Coffee Gift for Teachers

Christmas Coffee Gift for the Teacher

I posted a picture on Instagram of a Coffee Gift for Teachers at the end of the summer term which got a lot of comments and reshares. With Christmas and the end of term coming I have noticed a few chat threads relating to Teacher's Gifts so I wanted to share this with you as it is a really simple, yet thoughtful gift that anyone can put together. Best of all, it's inexpensive and would work for friends, family or as a Secret Santa- any … [Read more...]
