Remembrance Day Poppy Button picture

we will remember them

I know that Halloween is all that anyone is really focused on at the moment, but another event looms on the horizon that is much more significant, for me at least. I refer to 11 November 2012. Remembrance Day. The chance to take a moment to think and thank. I think of those whose lives have been directly affected by: the people who have to carry on with their loves whilst war rages around them, who have to give up their homes, lose their … [Read more...]

Pumpkin Hama Bead crafts

Pumpkin fusible Bead craft ideas

Did you know that you can buy Hama Beads in specific colours? I didn't, so was delighted to receive an orange packet recently. They were perfect for a few Halloween-related Pumpkin crafts.   1. Oil the inside of pumpkin- and leaf-shaped cookie cutters, then add a thick layer of Hama beads. Bake on a lined baking sheet in a hot (180C) oven until beads are fused. 2. To make the ombre pumpkin, I used white, yellow and orange Hama beads … [Read more...]

Hama time: crafting with melting beads

hama bead mini and maxi

If you heard a scream last week, it was me, opening a package filled with Hama Beads from Play Merrily. When The Girls came running to see what was wrong, they screamed too, and were frustrated that our week was such that we didn't get the chance to break open the boxes until the weekend. But when we did we had such #hamatime fun. Never having come across them before, I have rather fallen in love. And The Girls have too. It's one of those … [Read more...]

Painted Pine Cone Door Hanging

Pine cone painting

That crafty Red Ted Art set a challenge recently to get crafting with nature. Obviously I pointed to the fabulous Autumn Nature Wreath that Dimples and I made, but she demanded that I do better. So I did. Dimples and I had cause to stay inside one day. Rain- bleurgh. But I had some fabulous  new metallic acrylic paints that I was eager to use and a bowl of pinecones we had garnered weeks earlier when out and about. So we painted them. … [Read more...]

Fairtrade Big Fair Bake Challenge

coffee almond streusel cake recipe

I'm joining in the Big Fair Bake, which is working this year with Tots100. This idea is that you bake something using Fairtrade ingredients and use it to spread the Fairtrade message. It's about getting a fair price for goods at source, rather than exploiting farmers and growers so that we can get things cheaply here in the UK. I was inspired a while ago by the incredible coffee-based recipes that Utterly Mummy came up with, and … [Read more...]
