Wax Crayon Poppies: a Remembrance Day Craft

Wax Crayon Poppies Remembrance Day Craft

Wax Crayon Poppies: a Remembrance Day Craft A couple of years ago I made some Pumpkin/Jack-o-Lanterns from wax discs of paper and wax crayons. I found the post recently and it occurred to me that you could use precisely the same technique to make poppies- an easy and effective Remembrance Day Craft. It's quite simple: you grate the wax crayons- I used red and black- then arrange the colours on a disc of waxed paper. Mine are from the sets … [Read more...]

Fingerprint Poppy Craft

poppy from bingo dabbers

Sometimes simple ideas are the best. I was putting together a post on Remembrance Day Crafts at the weekend, when Dimples looked over my shoulder.   She asked if she could make a poppy from 'dots', which I discovered meant our Bingo Dabbers, which have lain unused since we moved. So I got them out and she dabbed plenty of little flowers from 'dots'. Whilst my back was turned she, of course, covered her hands in red bingo dabber. … [Read more...]

15 Poppy Crafts for Remembrance Day

POppy Craft Ideas for Remembrance Day

If you look around at the moment, there are a profusion of poppies, not in the meadows but on lapels and radiator grills and Facebook Profiles. We are but 6 days from Remembrance Day next Monday, with Remembrance Sunday falling the day before. My children are not the only ones asking about the significance of the pretty red flowers, so I've compiled a list of 15 Poppy Crafts for Remembrance Day.   Meet the Dubiens has a wonderful … [Read more...]

In which my children design their own t-shirts

crayon monogrammed t-shirt

Polo-shirts.co.uk is launching a competition which calls upon your t-shirt designing skills. Your children can enter their design and the winning blogger (and parent of designer) gets £100 given to the charity of their choice. We were sent t-shirts and fabric crayons by the people at Polo Shirts with which to create our masterpieces. I put a piece of card between the front and back of the t-shirt to prevent transfer, and I stuck the … [Read more...]

Poppy Remembrance Day Craft and Linky

remembrance poppy garland craft

You know how, if you stare at something for long enough, an idea comes to you? My very easy Pumpkin garland has been hanging in the kitchen for the past three weeks so I get to look at it repeatedly throughout the day. Then suddenly, it came to me: a poppy craft for Remembrance Day that is so very simple to make. It goes like this. Try to keep up won't you? You take a length of red crepe banner and concertina it for what feels like ever. … [Read more...]

Remembrance Day Poppy Button picture

we will remember them

I know that Halloween is all that anyone is really focused on at the moment, but another event looms on the horizon that is much more significant, for me at least. I refer to 11 November 2012. Remembrance Day. The chance to take a moment to think and thank. I think of those whose lives have been directly affected by: the people who have to carry on with their loves whilst war rages around them, who have to give up their homes, lose their … [Read more...]

In Flanders Fields

remembrance

In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks still bravely singing fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead: Short days ago, We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved: and now we lie In Flanders fields! Take up our quarrel with the foe To you, from failing hands, we throw The torch: be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us … [Read more...]
