A tree for every season

It's week 50 in The Gallery and for the life of me I cannot believe that a year has gone by since it began, not that I started trying to keep up until recently. It has become such an institution in the section of the Blogosphere I feel most comfortable in that I can't remember a time before it existed. It's testament to the blogversity of the legendary Tara of Cain that she has managed to think up a different topic for each of the last fifty … [Read more...]

The First Word

My children are a study in contrasts: one likes Marmite, the other hates it. She eats Peanut Butter which the Marmite-lover can't bear. Dimples has a cheese allergy yet Pocket Dictator will eat Baked Potato with cheese until it comes out of her ears. I had a thought that I would use the word opposite for my Gallery entry this week, in fact.   Then I had a better idea, since whilst they are so very different, my Girls also have something in … [Read more...]

Togetherness at The Gallery

Week nights at DG Manor are often tough, and by this hour I am usually counting the minutes until DH walks through the door by this point in the day. Being self-employed, he doesn't have conventional 9-5 working hours (who does these days?) so there is no guarantee that he will see The Girls before they go to bed. Sometimes, despite his best efforts, a few minutes of delay for South Eastern rail is the difference between being able to read … [Read more...]

The Gallery: 24 hours with an Aspiring Domestic Goddess

There are days when I don't know at what point yesterday ended and today began, such is the number of times I have staggered from my bed to the nursery to deal with Dimples then crawled, sometime later, under the now-cold duvet for what I hope will be the last time until morning. Last night was one such night. This makes it tricky to know at what point to start the clock running on the task that Tara has set for this week's Gallery, but assume … [Read more...]

She sells sea shells. The Gallery Week 44

Threeva has been learning about shapes at school, so this weekend when we were on the beach, we collected a whole bucket filled with shells and used them to make shell-shapes. All of which fits beautifully with Tara's theme this week at The Gallery: Shapes. Now go and check out the other entries for this week's Gallery. I guarantee they won't be dull! … [Read more...]

The Gallery: Children

Tara said she had a gift for us this week with her Gallery theme. I imagine that the unbearable amount of nakedness a fortnight ago forced her to review topics and, given that a large part of her audience are parent-bloggers (sorry, Dads, but Mummy Bloggers does roll off the tongue a lot easier), I can see why. My issue is not the lack of choice, it's the gaping chasm of possibilities that stretch in front of me when you mention the word … [Read more...]

The Gallery: Mother Nature

The Threeva has been learning about growing plants. She enjoys being outside and looking at the leaves on the trees and digging in the garden. She and her Daddy will go out in all weathers to potter and play. Last year they grew strawberries and if she went missing, I often found her at the bottom of the garden snaffling a few ripe berries. Given that I struggle to keep houseplants alive, my green-fingered mother took her in hand and, before … [Read more...]
