About six months ago I started following The Boy and Me, drawn in by her Project 365, and the wonderfully daily photos that she was publishing of her Boy. It occurred to me that this was a brilliant idea and I determined to follow her lead at the beginning of 2012. It seems I was not the only one: my G Reader is filled with the most wonderful #366 posts at the moment, and I love them all. Because I am a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants blogger, … [Read more...]

This competition is now closed and the winner has been notified. But you can still get 10% off Cupcakes for Clara goodies with the code DOMESTICGOD10 for ALL of December. What a way to start December! Oh the weather outside is frightful....ly cold and I have been busy inside. The Gallery: Faces
The Dimpled Assassin is absurdly tuneful for her young age. She sings all the time (when she's not crying or eating, because that could be very messy). Her latest obsession is Baa Baa Black Sheep which DH made the mistake of showing her on youtube the other day. Now, whenever she spies his laptop, she screams Baa Baa Back Seep [sic] until one or other of us is foolish enough to put it on for … [Read more...]
Orange is the only colour
I think that giving a prompt like 'colour' and then casually saying after it 'just one' is mean. Because a colour immediately springs to mind. And another one, a third hot on it's heels. "That's OK," you say to yourself "I'll do them both." Except you read the small print which clearly states 'only one.' Bugger. So this evening, having gone through almost every chart on the Farrow and Ball colour chart, which features such intriguing … [Read more...]
Homeward bound
I wrote recently for another Gallery prompt that the best thing about travelling was the coming home: I love to see Canary Wharf in the distance and know that I will soon be on my front doorstep. It's a strange thing to grow up overseas. Not just overseas, but travelling, so that every three years you have a new home, a new school, a new social life, a new set of friends. My background meant that I was a good nanny: quick to settle in, get the … [Read more...]
The diary we all carry about
It was Oscar Wilde that wrote "Memory... is the diary that we all carry about with us". I happen to have a very good memory for particular things: phone numbers, people's names, dates and so forth. It's less reliable whilst I am still having interrupted sleep, although I am reliably informed by a professional parent that this will change when I get some time to myself once The Girls go to school. In the meantime I carry a memory back-up, … [Read more...]
Shoe box
This week's Gallery request is shoes. I had lots of ideas: the Girls' First Shoes, which sit, framed, in their bedrooms; my well-worn sneakers, a result of training for Shine 2011 (incidentally, if you haven't please consider sponsoring me. The link is to your right); my favourite shoes, the ones I got married in; the first pair of shoes DH bought for me on our first romantic mini-break; the welly rack that sits by the back door. There is never a … [Read more...]
