Alice has terminal cancer. She is 15 years old. Like any teenage girl, she has a wish list of things she would love to do. She has published them on her blog. Unlike them, she has limited time. I have two little girls, who are more precious to me than anything. I hope that if I were in Alice's mother's position, I'd be as amazingly strong, as clever, and capable, as Alice says, of doing anything: I think I'm going to have to ask mum … [Read more...]
Easy Father’s Day Crafts
Inspired by Maggy at Red Ted Art and Robinsons, we've been making a Squash Monster pen holder for DH's day. I used spray paint to give the inside a ghoulish purple tint, then coated the outside in chalkboard spray, which means that whilst he is making dull business calls, DH can doodle monster faces with chalk. Give it a quick wipe and you can start all over again. Oh, and this particular Monster's favourite treats are … [Read more...]

I am grateful for…#passiton
These hands, tanned and cracked and dry, in desperate need of some TLC and a little polish. These hands that have washed up in hot soapy water the detritus of the day. These hands that have changed nappies and emptied potties, that have mopped up sick and given Calpol. These hands that hold my growing babies close when they cry as the nurse pricks them with needles, takes blood, innoculates. These hands that mix and stir and blend and … [Read more...]

May was a good month. A busy month. Actually every month is a busy month. I like doing things with my children. I like finding new things to do online. I am beginning to like learning, despite the fact that finals made me fear ever having to learn anything ever again. It's nice. So, this month I made a rainbow cake for PD's birthday. It was inspired by all the rainbow-based foodstuffs I saw across the internet in the run-up to St Patrick's … [Read more...]
How to make a windsock
The Girls and I have been making windsocks from recycled bits and pieces this week. Though the sun that we have had of late has been lovely, it's the wind that has really got The Girls stirred up. PD really doesn't like it when the wind blows: she doesn't like her hair getting in her face. Down on the beach the other day, to deflect a brewing tantrum as a result of the usual hair-in-face trauma, we looked at the flags that are flying on Margate … [Read more...]
Welcome to my garden paradise
The weather held for PDs Birthday party, which made my life so much easier. After an hour of party fun inside, making bears and icing cakes, I opened the back doors and released a dozen children into the wild. The garden is the primary reason that we bought the house: it's a worthwhile compromise for living on a busy road. There's a big patio which house barbeque, table and 8 chairs, canopy garden umbrella, sandpit, flower pots and other … [Read more...]
