We Love #Lollibop

We Love Lollibop

I frankly don’t know where to start. We’ve never been to a festival before, even before children. I was completely blown away by Lollibop. The highlights for us were seeing Rasta Mouse on stage, getting a shout out from CBeebies’ Sid, the giant sandpit, the man who climber inside a ball (just so wrong) and the massive amounts of dancing we did. The park was incredibly well laid out: there were seating areas every few metres, it seemed. Some … [Read more...]

Why you should plan your funeral.

The Mothership recently lost one of her closest and dearest friends. They met in Cairo a thousand years ago when my parents were still married. Dad worked with Joyce’s husband, Mike and the couple were regular visitors to our home. Their friendship has prevailed through thick and thin, from country to country, so that even though they didn’t get to meet up too often they stayed in touch regularly by long phone calls, postcards and letters (Joyce … [Read more...]

Birth and all that.

pregnant and in a wheelchair

I never got the natural birth everyone talked about at NCT, which was fine because Lord knows I didn’t want one. I’d have been very happy to have had an epidural at 7 months, just to get me into the swing of things. In fact I went to my first NCT class knowing that I’d be induced at 38 weeks because of the crippling pain I was in from SPD. Sadly one mention of this put me automatically at the bottom of the class (along with a diabetic and … [Read more...]

Retro Frozen Lemon Dessert like Granny makes.

Retro Frozen Lemon Dessert

We're off to visit the Rentals next weekend and the Girls are beside themselves with excitement. Babar made and installed a bug hotel after we saw them last and I'm hopeful that there may be some mini-beasts to spy on when we get there. If not, there's always the pool, so they'll be happy either way. I won't because I'll spend the whole time marshalling the Wonder Hound, who is deeply suspicious of the pump and spends a good chunk of her time … [Read more...]

Alice’s Bucket List Update

You may recall a few weeks ago that I wrote about Alice, a  Cumbrian teenager who has terminal cancer. Alice put her Bucket List online and it went viral. There were so many lovely people out there who volunteered their services to help Alice achieve some of her dreams. Just look at her list now:   Some of my bucket list DONE - To swim with sharks To make everyone sign up to be a bone marrow donor To go to Kenya DONE - To … [Read more...]

How to make a paper plate pocket watch: a Thomas Cook Kids Club Competition entry

Paper plate clock face

I hate it when someone throws down the gauntlet at me. I am a person who is incapable of saying “No!” Fortunately, the advantage of the challenge Maggy at RedTed set me is that I get to spend time with my children. We get to spend time together making stuff. And in return for the making of fun stuff with my Girls, there is a chance that we may win a big stash of goodies thanks to Thomas Cook. Thus I found myself downloading one of the stories … [Read more...]
