It's so lovely when review products work beautifully together. Take coffee and cake, for example, which blend perfectly, especially in a household which considers tea to be the work of the devil. I have mentioned before that I was raised on Turkish coffee- a special thick brew which requires a particular kind of sweet and sticky morsel to be consumed with it. I like Turkish Coffee, but it's a hassle to brew. And I love our coffee machine, but it … [Read more...]
Giving your children a #naturalchildhood
Something David Bond said last weekend at a National Trust property in Sussex really struck a chord with me: that our children are free to roam in a much smaller area now than they used to be able to. I immediately thought of my childhood in Cyprus which-in my head at least- is comparable with an upbringing in 1950's England. Outside school hours we were free to roam the local scrub-land- not much grew in the lands around our Army Quarters- on … [Read more...]
Paper Plate Easter Bonnet
Last year I was really pleased with how the Paper Plate Easter Bonnet, inspired by Philip Treacy, turned out, so I turned to paper plates- one of my favourite kid's crafting tools- when I needed to make one for this year's parade. And all you need is glue, a large paper plate, some doilies and some ribbon. It really was a very simple craft: so much so that Dimples- just 3- did almost all the work by herself. Egg carton Easter Nest and Lindt Bunnies
A couple of weeks ago, The Girls and I were making Mother's Day flowerpots from egg cartons. They are super easy to make and so we had a few left over, which I have 'reinvented' as Easter nests that we can give to friends' children over the Easter period. The brilliant thing is that these egg carton 'nests' or 'burrows' are just the right size for the little Lindt bunnies that are on sale this time of year. The Girls were recently sent … [Read more...]
{Review} Olay Regenerist Daily Regenerating Serum
I don't ordinarily write about beauty products because I pay little attention to my skin but I have to tell you this story. More Than Toast wrote a post the other day about her current face favourites: the products that make a difference to how her skin looks and feels. I have never been one to bother with all that sort of stuff but I have noticed of late that my skin is starting to look it's age: I guess it's the 'mother effect'. So I was … [Read more...]
How to make a bird’s nest
Take one just-three-year-old and wrap well. Tear coffee filters or tissue paper or indeed kitchen roll, into strips. Apply insane amounts of glue to your plastic bowl (ours was one half of a giant Lindor ball that we got at Christmas) Apply strips of paper. Apply glue, then paper, then glue until you are exhausted. Leave to dry whilst child exhausts themselves doing whatever it is that three-year-olds do best. Once dry, … [Read more...]
