I posted a picture on Instagram of a Coffee Gift for Teachers at the end of the summer term which got a lot of comments and reshares. With Christmas and the end of term coming I have noticed a few chat threads relating to Teacher's Gifts so I wanted to share this with you as it is a really simple, yet thoughtful gift that anyone can put together. Best of all, it's inexpensive and would work for friends, family or as a Secret Santa- any … [Read more...]
Apple and Date Streusel Muffins
Just before half-term we went on a walk down the lane on a sunny Sunday morning and came across a bumper crop of windfall apples (and chestnuts!), which we put in our Foraging Basket to bring home for tea. They were cooking apples, so not much use raw, but DH and The Girls set to work peeling, chopping and coring and we used them to make apple crumble for our supper. The Girls love crumble, especially with custard, so we have it quite … [Read more...]
Fingerprint Poppy Craft
Sometimes simple ideas are the best. I was putting together a post on Remembrance Day Crafts at the weekend, when Dimples looked over my shoulder. She asked if she could make a poppy from 'dots', which I discovered meant our Bingo Dabbers, which have lain unused since we moved. So I got them out and she dabbed plenty of little flowers from 'dots'. Whilst my back was turned she, of course, covered her hands in red bingo dabber. … [Read more...]
15 Poppy Crafts for Remembrance Day
If you look around at the moment, there are a profusion of poppies, not in the meadows but on lapels and radiator grills and Facebook Profiles. We are but 6 days from Remembrance Day next Monday, with Remembrance Sunday falling the day before. My children are not the only ones asking about the significance of the pretty red flowers, so I've compiled a list of 15 Poppy Crafts for Remembrance Day. Meet the Dubiens has a wonderful … [Read more...]
{Review} Afternoon Tea at The Cavendish Hotel
I have a fondness for Afternoon Tea. Ironic given that I don't drink tea, but I never know if it's the ceremony, the invitation to eat cake in the middle of the afternoon or the downright Britishness of the experience, but I do love it. DH, in fact, has treated me to Afternoon Tea on several occasions. So I thought that My Father, who was celebrating a Very Significant Birthday, might appreciate a Birthday Tea at The Cavendish Hotel to celebrate … [Read more...]
Home Craft: Charity Shop cast off and Guest Loo make-over
The thing about a new house is that- generally speaking- you move out of a house that is exactly how you want it to be and into a house that isn't. Meaning you spend the days and weeks after the boxes are all unpacked itching to get something, anything, to be exactly as you want it to be. Any small corner, will do. It's just to give you something to hold up in the months ahead of wallpaper-stripping and furniture-revamping as a beacon of hope for … [Read more...]
Cornbread Toad in the Hole
You know how Toad in the Hole goes, right? You bake sausages in batter and they taste delicious. Perfect British Fayre for a winter's night, and particularly good for the Bonfire Nights that we have coming up at the beginning of November. I made our cornbread from an Aunt Jemima's mix which I bought in my local supermarket, but there are plenty of recipes out there if you want to make it from scratch. Ingredients: 1 batch cornbread … [Read more...]
