The Week That Was 48

the week that was 48

Monday: Dimples creased me up at the weekend trying to hypnotise me with her eyes. That fun lasted into Monday. She of course fell asleep on the school run after we met Granny for coffee, and indeed all the way through her sister's ballet class. On the plus side I made a killer Banana Date and Caramel cake. Tuesday: DH was a t home for the day, working. This always makes me feel like I need to do more than I usually do, or … [Read more...]

Advent Activity Calendar 2013

This is what December 2013 will look like at the new DG residence, DG Cottage: plenty of fun, a few traditions, a few activities we hope to make into traditions, and a sprinkling of Christmas Spirit every single day. Feel free to follow along with us and email or tweet us pictures of what you are up to using the #adventactivity hashtag or tagging @domesticgoddesq on twitter or Instagram. I have an Advent Activity Board on … [Read more...]

Salted Caramel Sauce

salted caramel sauce for ice-cream and pies

Salted caramel sauce: try it on ice-cream, spread on toast, with apple pie or on top of banana cake. Or straight from the jar with a spoon. Any way, it works. There are only four ingredients in this sauce and it really is very hard to get wrong. What it is easy to do is spill the molten sugar when you aren't paying attention. I have the burned foot to prove it: I am thankful I was making it in winter and therefore the damage was minimised by … [Read more...]

The Week That Was: Week 47

The week that was 181113

I saw a post this week that made me giggle- someone suggested the term "Mamarazzi" for a Mamma/Mum/Mother who takes pictures of their offspring ALL. THE. TIME. Which kind of sums me up. I don't know what portion of my instagramming is the blog, or conditioned as result of doing 366 last year, but the post reminded me that I love it. I love chronicling all the fun, odd and downright humdrum stuff that we get up to. I love seeing how much the … [Read more...]

Paper Plate Angels

Paper Plate Angel Craft

I bought a book ages ago from a charity shop and when I got it home a loose page fluttered out with instructions for making an angel mobile from paper. I have adapted the instructions I found- and which appear to have been lost in the move- to use paper plates to make hanging angels. The instructions seem complicated but after the first one it makes perfect sense and they are quick to make, I promise. So you need to fold your plate in half, … [Read more...]

Comforting Christmas Smells

Comforting Christmas Smells

It's definitely The Season: I had my first Gluhwein this weekend at the South Bank Christmas Market. It got me thinking about the sort of smells that make you feel festive. We all have a song that, when we hear it, immediately makes us feel like Christmas is coming, but what are the scents that make us feel the same way? I asked The Internet, and got some wonderfully aromatic responses. So here are our favourite Comforting Christmas … [Read more...]
