I mentioned in my last post that we like to talk with the children about what they have enjoyed and achieved in the outgoing year and if there is anything they would be keen to do in the year ahead. We look at our memory jar of funny clever and insightful things that they have said throughout the year, and talk about the future. It helps get a focus as a family. But it's also a great way of charting change in your growing [up] family. In … [Read more...]
Christmas Character Corks
It's no secret that I love making things from corks and I'm lucky that I have quite a few Champagne corks to hand when I need them. The Cork Nativity that I made a few years ago is still doing great service but I wanted a few new cork characters this Christmas and came up with Santa after being inspired by Red Ted Art Cork Santa. Santa obviously lead to a reindeer and on to a snowman. Then LBG suggested a 'girl' which is how we came to have … [Read more...]
Paper Plate Angels
I bought a book ages ago from a charity shop and when I got it home a loose page fluttered out with instructions for making an angel mobile from paper. I have adapted the instructions I found- and which appear to have been lost in the move- to use paper plates to make hanging angels. The instructions seem complicated but after the first one it makes perfect sense and they are quick to make, I promise. So you need to fold your plate in half, … [Read more...]

Fingerprint Poppy Craft
Sometimes simple ideas are the best. I was putting together a post on Remembrance Day Crafts at the weekend, when Dimples looked over my shoulder. She asked if she could make a poppy from 'dots', which I discovered meant our Bingo Dabbers, which have lain unused since we moved. So I got them out and she dabbed plenty of little flowers from 'dots'. Whilst my back was turned she, of course, covered her hands in red bingo dabber. … [Read more...]
15 Poppy Crafts for Remembrance Day
If you look around at the moment, there are a profusion of poppies, not in the meadows but on lapels and radiator grills and Facebook Profiles. We are but 6 days from Remembrance Day next Monday, with Remembrance Sunday falling the day before. My children are not the only ones asking about the significance of the pretty red flowers, so I've compiled a list of 15 Poppy Crafts for Remembrance Day. Meet the Dubiens has a wonderful … [Read more...]
Day of the Dead spoon craft
When Red Ted Art challenged me to make a Day of the Dead craft I had no idea where to start. I knew nothing about Day of the Dead. But I did some research and checked out the Dia de los Muertos crafts on Pinterest and it gave me an idea to make super easy 'shrunken heads' from plastic spoons. I say shrunken heads because I made them with disposable teaspoons, but you could make larger ones using dessert spoons. All you need is a few disposable … [Read more...]
