I've been tagged by Merry to show you pictures of me, as seen through the eyes of my two tormentors children. They spend so much time drawing but never really draw me very much, so were happy to take up the gauntlet thrown down to them. LBG is 4-and-a-half and an accomplished artist, so she has put a reasonable amount of detail into her depiction, though no colour. She had other things to draw apparently. You've got to … [Read more...]
Puffy Paint Cactus
As we are trekking through Mexico on the Around the World in 12 Dishes adventure, I recently took a leaf out of the incredibly talented Creative Jewish Mom's book, and taught Dimples a little 'science' whilst we made puffy paint. Dimples is all about the mixing, having spent the last two terms at cooking class, so I pretty much left her to her own devices after 'helping' with the measuring. Once mixed, I decanted the paint into some icing … [Read more...]
Hama time: crafting with melting beads
If you heard a scream last week, it was me, opening a package filled with Hama Beads from Play Merrily. When The Girls came running to see what was wrong, they screamed too, and were frustrated that our week was such that we didn't get the chance to break open the boxes until the weekend. But when we did we had such #hamatime fun. Never having come across them before, I have rather fallen in love. And The Girls have too. It's one of those … [Read more...]
Painted Pine Cone Door Hanging
That crafty Red Ted Art set a challenge recently to get crafting with nature. Obviously I pointed to the fabulous Autumn Nature Wreath that Dimples and I made, but she demanded that I do better. So I did. Dimples and I had cause to stay inside one day. Rain- bleurgh. But I had some fabulous new metallic acrylic paints that I was eager to use and a bowl of pinecones we had garnered weeks earlier when out and about. So we painted them. … [Read more...]
Harvest Festival Horn of Plenty
The Horn of Plenty is a project we've all been working on for a couple of weeks in advance of Harvest Festival, first on the constituent parts, then putting everything together. The easiest part, and my primary contribution, was making the horn. I used a piece of A2 card and sketched out the horn shape. Then I took apart a couple of brown gift bags I had left over from a birthday party. Next I cut crescent shaped pieces from the paper in a … [Read more...]
How to make an Autumn Nature Wreath
I'm getting used to my new normal: the daily school run, ensuring LBG has her Show and Tell item on a Tuesday and her gym bag on a Thursday, as well as her blazer and her book bag, her boater and her water bottle. And then I have to remember which days to take Dimples back home with me! Now that I have Dimples by herself two days a week, I am getting into the habit of making time to do activities with her, some that I did with her sister at … [Read more...]
Nespresso Challenge: Maracas
A few weeks ago I tagged on to the tail end of a conversation about crafting with leftover Nespresso capsules and boxes. As a Nespresso fan, I stuck my nose in and before you could say "curiosity killed the cat" I found myself agreeing to get involved in Feisty Tapas' #NespressoChallenge. When I was in the States a few weeks ago, I stocked up on lots of fun craft stuff that is hard to come by over here, including a few rolls of coloured … [Read more...]
