Here's why you should swap houses! When we told people that we were doing a House Exchange, the first reaction was one of surprise. "Aren't you worried that they will steal things?" "Don't you worry about other people rummaging through your things?" "I don't know how you could have someone stay in your home: they won't put things back where they found them." Of course, DH and I would have reacted in the same way had we been in their shoes, but … [Read more...]
No child should be left in the cold by rising fuel bills
LBG is home sick today: she has a temperature, a barking cough and has lost her voice. It's awful to hear her squeak. I know what it's like because I get laryngitis often enough. But when it's three-year-old, your three-year-old it's worse. So we are staying at home. I'm keeping her hydrated, dosing her with Calpol and Nurofen (following medical advice obviously) and have whacked on the heating to keep her warm. Because I can do that without … [Read more...]
Coca-cola gives free drinks to designated drivers!
One of the first real hints that Christmas is not too far away has to be when you see the Coca-Cola "Holidays are comin'" ad on the television. I may even have posted that I'd seen it as a Facebook status once. I suspect it has a lot to do with actually seeing the Coca-Cola trucks roll through the centre of Frankfurt all lit up way back in *mumbles a year that is now a considerable time ago*. Honestly: they actually have light-up trucks to … [Read more...]
How to deal with emotions in pre-schoolers
I have concerns for LBG. Not in a sinister way, but I see in her so much of myself. My mother and father are both in agreement that she is a carbon copy of the three-year-old that I was, which is wonderful and terrifying at the same time. For whilst I like the child that I was and the person that I am, the transition from one to the other was hideous. It was so hard to know how to be a girl amongst other girls, a teenager, filled with and … [Read more...]
In Flanders Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place: and in the sky The larks still bravely singing fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead: Short days ago, We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved: and now we lie In Flanders fields! Take up our quarrel with the foe To you, from failing hands, we throw The torch: be yours to hold it high If ye break faith with us … [Read more...]

The theme of Remembering is evident across the blogosphere in many forms. Cherry Menlove, who has so very much to be thankful for this Remembrance Day, is showcasing the … [Read more...]
Wit Wit Woo on Remembering
Wit Wit Woo was jolly nice to me when we first met at the now infamous Cake Fest that was BlogCamp London. I followed her on twitter, where she is generally incredibly witty, which would be quite annoying if she weren't bang on the money. And then there's her inimitable style. She has so much fun with life, with her blog: it must be the red hair. I always thought Blondes were supposed to have the most … [Read more...]
