Loo rolls. toilet rolls, TP rolls. Whatever you call the paper tubes, they are a great crafting tool, especially with pre-schoolers.
Dimples and I have been printing some spring chicks with them.
You need to shape your toilet roll before you start. Hold it on either side with your fingers at 10 and 5 (positions on the clock) then pinch. This should created two pointed edges, which form the beak and tail.
I found that you need to support the shape whilst printing so you need to hold the tube in both hands, or you could use duct tape to hold the shape in place so that your kids can do it all themselves . Dip in paint and print onto paper.
Once your paper is dry you can add details- an eye and some feet, or perhaps colour in the beak- with pens or crayons. When dimples got bored making wrapping paper, I made a card. I used washi tape to add some of the details- like the beak, grass and flowers- then added the rest with whatever crayons Dimples’ consented to me using!
For other great spring crafts, try making a ladybird magnet from a cork. Check out the link for a whole host of fun Spring Crafts courtesy of the latest Red Ted Art Craft Hangout.
