I am pretty much fuelled by coffee: it oils the machine that does the school run, the laundry, the cooking, the cleaning and all the behind-the-scenes stuff that happens whilst DH is at work and The Girls are at school and nursery. I rather wish that the coffee actually did all that stuff for me, if I’m honest. I doubt I am the only one. I don’t imagine I am the only one who loves my Nespresso machine either: the barista-style coffee that is on tap at a fraction of the cost of a Venti Soy Latte.
It’s been great owning a Nespresso of late: lots of brands are coming to market with capsules that are Nespresso compatible. Brands like Caffe Cagliari, a 100 year old Italian family company. Alessandra Cagliari, the Great Great Granddaughter of the Ambrogio Cagliari, brand founder, handles the marketing and packaging today.
Certified by the Italian Espresso National Institute (I.N.E.I.), which protects and promotes Italian Espresso, Caffe Cagliari pods come in five flavours: Espresso Ristretto, Elite, Crema Espresso, Grand Espresso and Deca (decaffeinated.) They are come in packs of ten which work out at 29p per coffee, which is on a par with some of the Nespresso pods, and if you order in bulk it could cost as little as 23p. Order online via the website, where orders of 240 capsules get free shipping. This is similar to the Nespresso pods and one of my biggest frustrations: ordering online requires organisation and bulk buying which is sometimes challenging if you have a tight budget.
The capsules are plastic, come individually wrapped, and worked reasonably well in my machine, much like the Fine Coffee Club. My favourite flavour by far was the Crema which had a smooth creamy texture on the palette and wasn’t too overpowering. I probably wouldn’t rush out to buy more, though that is primarily because I am not overly keen on Italian coffee, than for any other reason.

Disclosure: I was sent some samples of Caffè Cagliari to try, along with a pair of espresso cups and saucers, and accompanying biscotti, for the purposes of writing this post. All opinions are my own.
