“This one time, on the Team Honk Relay…”
In all likelihood this is a phrase that you will be hearing a lot in the future. The Holy Trinity of Annie, Tanya and Penny that brought us Postcards from Ghana, and climbing Snowdon with red pants on your head last year have joined forces with the evil genius that is Sports Relief with a plan so daring, so awesome, so utterly crazy that I had to be a part of it.
Under the banner of Team Honk they have composed a convoluted relay of bloggers from the toe of the country to it’s very tip. Carrying the least Olympic-style torch you could ever hope to see, dressed in all manner of costumes and using a variety of travelling means, a massive team of fantastic bloggers hope to raise £20000 from Lands End to John O’Groats.
“Team Honk kicked off their challenge on Sunday 12th January at Lands End, and the relay will see 38 teams pass the baton in a variety of fun and creative ways, finishing in John O Groats on Sunday 23rd March. By the end of the race over 200 participants are expected to have taken part and signed special ribbons on the Olympic themed baton.”
The journey of absurdity- we bloggers will literally do anything for a good cause- is being documented, tweeted and instagrammed. There are radio interviews, newspaper articles and TV appearances. There will be as much social media exposure as is possible without any actual nakedness. So if you are a business that can help in any way, small or large, get in touch via the Team Honk website and get your name on the Wall of Thank Yous.
For my part, I shall be joining the most daring plan of all: London.
The Team Honk trio have spawned another triumvirate in the form of Sarah, Vanessa and Sophie who have conceived Honkopoly. That’s right. It’s Monopoly, but with a Honk, if you will. The London Team will aim to cover every colour of the Monopoly board with a couple of extra iconic points of interest along the way, by all means of transport, with some skipping hopping and sidestepping in between. From dawn until dusk Team London will hold aloft the baton at landmarks that are recognised throughout the world, and some that aren’t.
And all whilst wearing costume. told you we’d do anything for a cause.
London team members include: not another mummy blog, chocolate is not the only fruit, manaias mama, the holiday tots, red ted art, loved by parents, jenography, jacintaz, was this in the plan, i carried a watermelon, mums do travel, mummy and boo, a baby on board, domestic goddesque, babes about town, hatty daze, pigeon pair and me, kids chaos and se magazines.
In return, we would hope that you can dig around for a few coppers- whether in the back pocket of your spare pair of jeans, down the back of the sofa, under the drivers’ seat of your car. Anything you have, we need. All you have to do is

Hee hee I’ll have my two childre with me – as good excuse as any for only doing half of the route 🙂 (mind you, I’ll be working super-hard to herd the two little pigeons, so I don’t feel too guilty!)

half is better than none @nell. 🙂
