The Week That Was 48

the week that was 48Monday: Dimples creased me up at the weekend trying to hypnotise me with her eyes. That fun lasted into Monday. She of course fell asleep on the school run after we met Granny for coffee, and indeed all the way through her sister’s ballet class. On the plus side I made a killer Banana Date and Caramel cake.

Tuesday: DH was a t home for the day, working. This always makes me feel like I need to do more than I usually do, or do it better, or more efficiently. I never seem to get the balance right, although he probably doesn’t notice my total wife-angst at all. Nor did he question why I was painting champagne corks to look like Father Christmas. Or eating marshmallows with our Instagrams on.Β The postponed playdate went well and all the children behaved beautifully. I just have to do it all again on Friday!

Wednesday: the children’s school photos arrived which only reminded me of the hilarity involved with taking them. We only have a copy of the joint one because although LBG was smiling so beautifully in her individual, Dimples was shooting Death Stares at the photographer and I cannot see any Godparent wanting to display that shot on their mantel! Mae mini-Christmas Cakes which vanished so quickly I had to make more later in the week. Granny M popped by with a stash of Birthday Presents for the morning.

Thursday: I went straight from school to Bromley for coffee with mums from the Girls old school. It was lovely to see friendly faces on a day that started with the Girls reminding me how old I am! Then lunch with the lovely Lisa after I stocked up in some of the shops. Typical that some really great shops have come to Bromley now that I have left πŸ™‚ DH made it back from Birmingham in time to light the candles on my cake and we all went to bed with tummies filled with Red Velvet Cake.

Friday: Dimples declared we must make snowman biscuits on the playdate so we went directly to the supermarket. The mouse man popped by to declare the house rodent free so I celebrated with a second Diet Coke and Supernoodles for lunch. Dimples refused to remove her new Dalmatian onesie so I was delighted when the Playdate mum offered to pick up LBG em route and save me leaving the house. Another fun afternoon with a house filled with children but I was exhausted and ready for bed not long after The Girls!

Saturday: I was awoken by a cock crowing, which doesn’t bode well for one of our birds. Abandoned googling How to Dispatch a chicken in favour of taking the Girls to pick a Christmas Tree. We drove through a Drive Thru’: a rare treat now that we are ‘in the country’ and took our booty back to Daddy before getting dolled up and heading for a delicious Thanksgiving meal which lasted the rest of the day and evening. Got to test my new ‘night-driving’ glasses on the way home and felt all smug and middle aged. As you should do in the week of your birthday.

Sunday: more CockadoodleDo from Mrs Nicholson who will now be called Mr N. Or maybe Dr No (as in No-I-Am-Not-A-Hen)? We spent a morning helping Daddy move logs- we had a few trees come down in recent storms and DH has been diligently sawing it up- I lifted the Chainsaw Ban that I had imposed when we first moved- for the past three weeks- it’s 50m long so a very large tree. Fortunately we have a new wood burner. Then a family supper once we had caught up on last night’s Strictly and trimmed the tree.
