It’s impossible to explain the excitement in our home at the arrival of a new Barbie DVD in our home. We watch them all the time and, to be honest, the new one is as much a relief as a joy for me: I end up being word-perfect I watch them so often, and find myself humming Barbie-related tunes in deeply inappropriate places.
It goes without saying that we were delighted with Barbie™ & Her Sisters in A Pony Tale. It’s such a great story: a mystical wild horse, a race against time, victory against the odds and true friendship. Set in a riding academy in the Swiss Alps, Barbie™ & Her Sisters in A Pony Tale tells the delightful story of friendship between the sisters- Barbie, Skipper, Chelsea and Stacie and their new pony pals, and is available on DVD and Blu-ray from 28th October 2013.
We have watched it twelve times so far and the girls love it. What’s not to love? It’s Barbie. If you love Barbie, you’ll love this new DVD.
My girls love Barbie in every form. They love the songs and the clothes, they quote lines from the films and hum bars of classical tunes used in them. They even play with their own Barbies in American accents to better enjoy the Barbie World. As a parent I suppose that I should be horrified by this: that they are so in love with a pink blonde slender wealthy American character that has no foothold in The Real World. And yet, I don’t. My girls still believe in Father Christmas and the Tooth Fairy. They like Tinkerbell and Sofia the First and talk about them as if they were best friends.
I recently had a conversation with FrogMom about the positive role-model that Barbie offers. I confess I was a sceptic, but I watched the new DVD with fresh eyes and Laure is right. Barbie is a problem solver. She is not afraid to do what needs to be done. She will fight for the small man, she is never rude or mean and she brings out the best in people. She doesn’t ask of others what she wouldn’t ask of herself. And she does it in pink. It’s worth remembering next time you sigh and roll your eyes. Barbie’s audience is getting younger as kids grow up faster. Isn’t it a good thing that she can offer even the smallest child in her year a positive message?
Barbie and her sisters in A Pony Tale is available to buy from 28th October 2013 at a cost of £10.99 (DVD) £17.99 (Blu-ray)
Disclosure: we were sent a copy of the DVD for the purposes of writing this review.

I’m glad it’s not just me that thinks this @nichola. I confess that I worry LBG will want an actual horse though….

My girls are still little at 3 and 2, but they do watch Barbie and although they are both a bit Tomboy outdoorsy, they are attracted to pink and I don’t mind at all. My eldest loves the fact that Barbie rides horses and surfs and is actually a bit of a smart cookie, which in my book is a bit cool too and definitely postive for girls.
