I read today that children are more fond of the toys and characters from the eighties than they are the modern characters and activities. Which works out well for me because I didn’t get most of them first time around, living overseas as I did.
A survey of 1,000 parents by Clearvision – to mark the launch of the new My Little Pony on DVD for the first time in the UK – found the overwhelming majority of young children prefer traditional toys to tech gadgets.
When asked what they thought their children would be most happy with as a gift, My Little Pony topped the list at number two with over a third of 3-6 year olds wanting a My Little Pony product as a present, beating both Barbie and a bike.
I have a Three-Year-Old and Five-Year-Old, with a preference for anything pink, and that includes bikes, Barbies and Little Ponies. So the joy with which they greeted the arrival of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic – Welcome to Ponyville really doesn’t need description, does it?
Exactly.
Nor does their response to the DVD, which was to watch it all in one sitting, entranced. They loved the stories, and seeing the characters they play with so regularly, come to life. They loved the quaint, magical village of Ponyville. They loved watching Twilight Sparkle who set off with her best friend, Spike, on a special assignment, and all the wonderful friends she made on the way. I confess I rather liked it too: seeing Applejack- my favourite- again.
Available for the first time on DVD, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic- Welcome To Ponyville is available from the 2ndSeptember 2012 in all good retailers and www.clearvision.co.uk priced £12.99. Certification U: Suitable for all audiences.
*disclosure: we were sent a copy of the DVD ahead of it’s release, for the purposes of this review. Our opinions are our own*

I think there’s a lot of truth in that study as my children seem drawn to all the old toys, games and films Ant and I had and watched.

My girls love the old musicals. And BagPuss
I loved My little pony and it was great for practising different kinds of plait in their lovely long hair. Glad they enjoyed the DVD.
I think that’s what LBG does. She’s mastering the art of plaiting!
My 3 almost 4 year loves My Little Pony too! It was a favorite of mine when I was little so I’m super excited over this!
