{Review} Lego Lunch Box

The Girls were delighted when, on the first day back at school, they came home to a parcel of fabulous Lego Lunch boxes and drinks bottles from STORE. It took about ten minutes to unwrap and wash them before they were in use: hosting a ‘packed tea’ on the front lawn at the end of a hot day.

The Description:

Our classic LEGO® Lunch range is based on the creative and playful world of The LEGO® Group. It consists of a lunch box, smaller insertable boxes and a drinking bottle with the iconic LEGO® Minifigure head as a lid. The lunch box looks like an oversized LEGO® brick and can be matched with the smaller insertable boxes for small, healthy snacks. The LEGO® lunch range definitely makes lunchtime more fun…for children of all ages!

The Lego Lunch Box comes in nine colours and costs £9.00

The Lego Drink Bottle has six colourways and also costs £9.00

lego lunch box review

The Verdict:

The Girls loved the colours of the boxes: ours were very pink, which is how we roll. I loved the iconic LEGO design: stylish and distinctive, making it easier to spot amongst the dozen lunch boxes in the classroom.

I found that The Girls struggled to get the top off of the box by themselves: the width of the box was too large for a five- and three-year-old to manage. That said, I had no problem.

I will be buying the mini-insertable boxes mentioned above- at a cost of £2.00 and £3.50- although to be honest I would rather have paid £10.00 and had one included. I have recently purchased a Munchkin Bento box for a similar price which had three compartments, two of which were removable, as well as a set of cutlery.  I have found generally with large lunch boxes that you need smaller inserts to put bits and pieces like grapes and pasta salad in (you can see from the pictures that I improvised with what I had!)

It’s a shame that the drinks bottle didn’t have a spout or sipper of some kind: there was a seam in the head that made me think it would. I see the sense in having the screw-off bottom for easy cleaning, but you do need to be very careful it’s screwed back on tightly or you have a leak.

They  (hand) wash easily.

The Girls love them: did I mention they were pink?

*disclosure: we were sent two lunch boxes and two bottles from STORE for the purposes of writing this review.*

lego bottle fail

EDITED TO ADD: today- five days after opening the LEGO delivery, I was washing up the bottle when I discovered that the bottom section had come away from the base, making it unfit for purpose. I have hand-washed it three times in the five days which doesn’t seem excessive and certainly used no brute force. I am understandably unimpressed by this development and have contacted the company. They assured me that this is a very rare event and replaced the broken bottle free of charge. They commented below as you can see!

    Hi Guys,

Simon here (the MD at STORE)….Oh no I’m so so sorry to hear of your probs with the LEGO bottles. I can honestly say (hand on heart) that we’ve sold many thousands of these official LEGO drinks bottles and this is the first time this has ever happened.

I’m speaking with my LEGO colleagues in Denmark right now as I write this. I have a worry that there may have been a shipment to the UK of a slightly shoddy batch (most unlike LEGO I have to say) which if this is the case we’ll happily replace any that don’t stand up to ‘the test of time and use by little ones’ under our no quibble policy.

To speed the process please feel free to contact myself directly or our lovely Ops Manager Lindsey@APlaceForEverything.co.uk and we’d both be happy help.

We do try our best to distribute quality brands and products like LEGO but we’re not perfect and on this occasion a BIG SORRY from me the MD at STORE. We’ll certainly get onto this one right away.

I reviewed this product too and found the same difficulties, not good for little people to manage on their own so impossible to send them into school with them and the bottom came off of our bottles too but I screwed it back on, however when it did come off, it soaked one of the girls so therefore as pretty as they are they haven’t been used since 🙁

We had the same unexpected dousing problem @Marianne. I certainly won’t be using the bottles again.

Oh that is such a shame about it coming apart. I was considering asking if it came in blue too for my son’s birthday.

It does I think but I really didn’t think much of the bottles.
