{Craft} Father’s Day desk golf set

I remember seeing an episode of Mister Maker about a year ago in which he crafted a table golf set in a minute, and thought that it would make a great craft for Father’s Day, and never got around to trying to make one.

Yet when I saw an old jar lid the other day it popped back into my mind so I dug out our air-drying clay and sought to recreate the project. It took me more than a minute, though.

Father's Day Desk Golf Craft

I used a jam jar lid for stability. It was already decorated in a lovely green check so that’s a time saver. Once your lid is clean, fill the upturned side with air drying clay. Level off using a ruler or knife then, using wet fingers, rub your hand gently across the surface to make it as smooth as possible. Take care to use the gentlest pressure or you will have an uneven putting green.

Once your surface is flat and shiny, you need to use the end of a pen to make a divot in one side that will become the hole. I also made a divot using a coffee stirrer for the flag.

Finally break off a small piece of clay and roll into a ball- you could use a bead if this is easier- that will just rest in the hole you created. Leave everything to dry overnight. Then all you need to do is give the ball and the putting green a couple of coats of paint and dry. As an alternative you could cut a circle of felt- with a hole-sized circle- and stick that on your green instead.

To make the flag, I simply cut a coffee stirrer in half, coloured stripes with a marker and used some fabric tape to create a flag at one end. You could use kids’ art work or write a message on the flag to personalise it.
