There’s nothing my children love more than a game which allows them to eat sweets. We’re playing the knife-and-fork game at their Gingerbread House Decorating Party (that expression is too long to say easily) which I loved as a child and is perfect for parties, but for smaller groups, this Christmas Stocking Game gets my vote.
I originally found the idea last year on Activity Mum’s blog but have altered the game slightly to suit my needs.
I cut a large stocking from red card and decorated with six large white stickers. I wrote the numbers from 1 to 6 on the spots.
Then all you do is roll the dice. When you roll a number, cover that numbered spot with a sweet- Smarties, M&Ms, Rolos, any individual sweet will work.
Taking turns to roll, the winner is the first person to cover all their spots. If you roll a number but the spot is covered, play passes on to the next player, until all players have covered their spots.
And when the game is over, eat the sweets! Play until exhausted.
What could be better? Numeracy and candy in one game.Β Not to mention the learning element: reinforcing numbers, counting and recognising numerals, turn taking, following the rules…..
