Capture the Colour

I’ve been tagged to Capture the Colour with travelsupermarket.com, and jumped at the chance to show off more of our amazing holiday in Arizona, in colour!

Blue: the moment our formerly pool-phobic two-year-old realised that water was brilliant for jumping in. The pool in our backyard was perfect for cooling down in the 120F heat, although at one point it felt more like a warm bath. We had such fun as a family in that, and other pools, on our trip and came back home with two water babies.

Green: a lizard suns himself on a rock at the Sonoran Desert museum. It was even hotter than Phoenix, so we were taking a break in the shade. I’ve never really taken pictures of wildlife before but this guy seemed happy to pose for me. He reminded us both of the Geiko lizard in the ads and we half expected him to start talking to us about insurance.

Yellow: a hot-dog seems to be an essential snack in the US. When we went to NY years ago, DH and I had several at the various corner stands there and they were delicious. I was more than happy to repeat the experience. The mustard was practically obligatory.

White: the wonderful thing about America is the kitsch. There is nothing kitscher than spending the night at the Wigwam Motel, just off Route 66 in Holbrook. It was a fabulous experience for us all, not least because the car park was dotted with a dozen vintage cars in various states of disrepair.

Red: the range of Cacti in Arizona is astonishing. The Saguaro is the State’s most well known, and can grow to up to sixty feet. These smaller tub-like cacti had the most beautiful flowers. It was only when I looked at the images on my laptop that I realised there was a decreasing circle pattern to the flowering. Isn’t nature amazing?
