I’ve been tangoed tagged, by The Award-Nominee Great British Housewife, to tell you what was Number One the day my babies were born. I had to look it up. You think it would be the kind of stuff you’d never forget, but it turns out I have not the first clue what has been Number One since the late 1990’s. I blame Radio 4.
On 18th May 2008, the day I became a Mamma, Neil Diamond went to No.1 on the UK album chart with ‘Home Before Dark’, also a US No.1 [source]. Meanwhile “That’s Not My Name” went to number one in the UK singles chart on 18 May 2008, seeing off competition from well-established acts like Rihanna, Madonna and will.i.am.[source]
The Number One single on 17 February 2010, a day that will live in infamy, to quote the famous speech, Helping Haiti with Everyone Hurts, whilst the top album was Alicia Keys’ The Element of Freedom.
None of these songs stick in my mind from the time though. Instead, the song that I remember from Annabel’s birth is Just Haven’t Met You Yet from Michael Bublé’s album Crazy Love. It played through the day on the radio the midwife was listening too whilst she monitored me on the epidural.
Interestingly it’s a Michael Bublé song that I remember playing incessantly on the radio whilst another epidural took effect: Everything, from Call Me Irresponsible. I have clear recollections of crying as it played, overwhelmed by tiredness, pain and emotion at getting to meet Cecily, I suppose.
Although it could also be connected to the third significant event in my life which features a Michael Bublé song: my wedding day. DH and I had our first dance- a choreographed Salsa, which required an outfit change, and allowed DH to show off the back of his waistcoat- covered up by his morning coat until that point- which bore the legend “Just Married”- to his version of the Drifters’ classic ‘Save the Last Dance’ from his second album (and my favourite) It’s Time. Don’t forget that voting has now opened for the Brilliance in Blogging Awards. I’m astonished and delighted to tell you I have been nominated in the Tasty (food-, not attractiveness-related) and would be absolutely delighted if you could vote for me, as well as The Great British Housewife. You don’t need to be British, or a blogger. And thank you for my nomination: I really appreciate your support.
Oh, and I tag some fabulous women with their own Empires:
