I like chocolate. You like chocolate. Everyone likes Hotel Chocolat. And why not? They have taken the humble Easter Egg and ramped it up several notches to create the drool-worthy Ostrich Egg, the scale of which could surely rival any Big Fat Gypsy Easter Egg?? They have taken the standard Easter Egg, turned it on it’s head and given us Egg and Chips. I love their quirky sense of humour. I love their packaging. I love their Chocolate Eggs!
But I don’t love their Sleekster Easter Egg Selection box. It’s arrival in our house has caused friction. I mean, how dare Domestic God think that he can eat all the Ginger ones before I get a chance. OK, so I may have squirreled away the Advocaat ones, but that -surely- is not the point? They were, after all, addressed to me.
Once we had come to a mutually satisfactory division of the assets, this was our considered opinion of our box of Egglets:
- Dark Ginger: he said they were spicey and delicious. I wish I knew if he were telling the truth.
- Pink Champagne: perfectly pink and deliciously light. I loved all of them.
- Advocaat Caramel: gorgeous, gooey, custardy centres with an excellent kick of a fabulous retro liqueur
- Mango Brulee: gentle mango flavoured smooth cream. I would have preferred a stronger flavour.
- Lemon Ganache: undoubtedly my favourite. Divine, creamy, with a zesty punch. Like eating lemon curd from the jar.
- Whisky: the only duffer. We loathe Whisky. This shouldn’t affect your enjoyment of them.
- Raspberry and Sour Creme: The kind of thing that has your mouth watering five minutes after you eat it. Just the right side of sour with a concentrated raspberry flavour: a perfect palate cleanser.
- Praline: milky chocolate with a salty note of praline. A really balanced chocolate.
- Runny Salted Caramel: a burst of liquid with a thick layer of chocolate. I adore salted caramel. This was heaven.
- Caramel Praline: a classic combination of chocolate, nut and caramel. Yummy.
So there you go: do buy the Sleekster Selection Box. You really will not regret it: there’s a chocolate for every mood. Just make sure you determine whose is whose before you start.
Disclaimer: I hope it is apparent that the lovely Hotel Chocolat Chocolatiers sent me this box to review. I also hope it is clear that the argument, and all subsequent opinions, are ours.
Amy says
hahha excellent! so you should be visiting any time soon then! Have just spent the last hour or so on their website… mmmmmm! too many things to buy! How did you get sent them to review?
Ah, I saw a tweet a while ago about reviewing, Amy, and jumped at it.
Wow! i want to review this box! It looks fab! I love Hotel Chocolat, but we don’t have one on the Isle of Man π
They do mail-order Amy, but fear not. If I ever make it to the isle of Man (and last time I was there was a hockey tournament circa 1994) I shall bring some with me.
I NEED to review a box as every blogger on the block is doing so and I am not. Dee-licious x
Haha Mari….I’ll get you into the club!!
