I found the Cake and Biscuits Dough in my local 99p Store last week. Given that ready-made cookie dough retails for a lot more than that in the supermarkets, it seemed silly not to give it a try, so that afternoon we took them to Granny’s house. As Granny is living in a rental and most of her things are in storage, she has a fairly basic range of kitchen supplies (I say that compared to my house which has every kind of baking-related-object known to man.)
This kit is perfect for this kind of scenario: the steps are simple. First mix the chocolate chips into the dough (soften dough in microwave if needed.) Next break the dough into small walnut-sized nuggets and roll into balls. Place on a greased baking tray and flatten with a fork. Bake.
Dimples totally nailed this task, following instructions, needing minimal input and sitting in front of the oven for every one of those ten minutes in a bid to make them cook quicker. I then had to keep her hands off the cooling cookies until they were cool enough to sample.
So the taste was not that of a home-made-from-scratch cookie, but they had a good crisp-yet-chewy texture, and in the absence of the aforementioned cookies, they did a rather good job. And that’s before I take into account the satisfaction Dimples got from making them herself, the pleasure Granny got from teaching her to bake and the joy I felt watching them both spend time together making memories.
