Inspired by….August

I mentioned in the past couple of posts that this summer seems to have flown by. I’m pretty pleased with myself if I’m honest: we’ve done so many fun things, and all of them have been educational, either intentionally or inadvertantly. And when I say educational, I’ve probably learned more than they have. I’ve learned that I really do love making and painting and crafting, either with my children or without them. I’ve learned that I love researching ideas, or coming up with things all by myself. I’ve learned that I really like spending time teaching them things. I’ve also learned that I love sharing my ideas. I love writing about our life, about my life, about our life through my eyes. I like writing. Finding that sort of information out about yourself does feel satisfying. It also, once again, makes me ponder my  future work. But that’s a story for another day.

So, what have we been up to this month?

The biggest triumph by far was V for Volcano. We made a volcano using a bottle and some bubble wrap because it was simpler than using salt dough, and because I had my Alice Pyne Mugs delivered that morning so had bubble wrap coming out of my ears!. Little Big Girl (the former Pocket Dictator) was so overjoyed with it, I used up every last drop of bicarbonate of soda and vinegar that we had in the house. She’s still talking about it now, a good three weeks on!

S turned out to be Spider after I saw a brilliant spider web using lolly sticks. Little Big Girl made a lady spider to live on it too.

We made some wonderful letter dominoes after I saw something similar on No Time For Flashcards. Of course I used cardboard from a box filled with jam jars so they didn’t last long once Dimples had dunked them in the dog bowl….there’s a lesson there, I’d say!

I couldn’t believe I’d never come up with this simple use of a cupcake case at Impress Your Kids. Ice lollies will never again be so messy!

For myself, I’ve been inspired to put some rules in place to deal with ‘difficult behaviour’ after reading some great Parenting rules. It’s still a work in progress but things are definitely better than they were.

What about you? Who or what has inspired you to do things this month?
