It’s been a really stressful few days, so much so that I have left myself only a week to organise PDs birthday party. It all got a bit on top of me yesterday and I really thought I was going burst with anger and frustration and the weariness that comes with days of interrupted sleep. And yet we girls ended up laughing and giggling and covered in paint.
We painted some stones that we found a few weeks ago on a Suffolk beach (I always follow Red Ted’s advice of limiting them to two colours) and that I subsequently spray-painted white. The bright and beautiful abstract offerings were turned into flowers with the deft use of black permanent marker. I threw in a bee for good measure, for what are flowers without bees?
Paint dried, The Girls had great fun ‘hiding’ the stones amongst the rapidly sprouting seedlings we planted a few short weeks ago. We inspected the latest growth of our sunflowers, smelled the herbs, and wondered how big our pumpkin would be (assuming one ever grows…) We talked about how the bees carry pollen from one plant to another, how the flowers that die become fruit on our plum trees, how our tiny seeds grow big and strong with sunlight and water.
And when they grew bored of learning, they made each other laugh by tickling themselves with daisies. They climbed up and slid down the slide together. They threw balls for the dog. They shouted and sang and ran as I sat on the bench my Mother bought to mark my engagement, and watched my little girls run in the afternoon sunlight. And I found that moment of calm that I was looking for, that I needed. Togetherness, sunlight, laughter and the satisfaction of growing something amazing.

Your stones are gorgeous! We did a stone fairy village a few weeks ago but we have some stones left over, we’ll definitely have a go at these!

Such a beautiful post and love the last photograph! The painted pebbles are absolutely fabulous – and I love the tips of only using two colours and the black marker pen finishes them off perfectly.
