A tree for every season

It’s week 50 in The Gallery and for the life of me I cannot believe that a year has gone by since it began, not that I started trying to keep up until recently. It has become such an institution in the section of the Blogosphere I feel most comfortable in that I can’t remember a time before it existed. It’s testament to the blogversity of the legendary Tara of Cain that she has managed to think up a different topic for each of the last fifty weeks that challenges both your photography skills and your ability to interpret the title. Periodically she likes to be slightly self-indulgent (and who can blame her? Did I mention that she is LEGENDARY?) as with this week where the theme is trees.

I was very tempted to go with an obscure reference to the topic this week, then was provided with a moment of inspiration when I was trying to marshall children and dogs inside. I took this photograph of the moon peeping through the still-bare branches of a very tall tree in our garden.

And the following day whilst Dimples slept, PD and I got busy in the art department, using twigs we collected from the garden and dried overnight, lots of glue and some tissue paper. And a bit of foil for the night-scene.

I found covering the picture in clingfilm and weighing down with a solid cook book helped stick the twigs to the paper. PD found that a better way was to smother the picture in glue and then apply a mountain of tissue paper to help keep the twigs in place. Her technique worked just as well. And her summer tree looked prettier.

You could use brown and orange tissue paper if you wanted to create an Autumn scene, cover the ground and some twigs in cotton wool for snow, or go bonkers and create a fantasy tree with fur and sequins. You could even paint the background in divine sunset colours before adding your tree. Let your imagination go mad.

A tree for every season: for other trees, visit Sticky Fingers.

Thank you: it was probably luck rather than good photography!
