…that parenthood is an honour and a privilege.
…that it should not be entered into lightly.
…that it is not a method of gaining a flat of my own, a stack of benefits from the government or a cheap engagement ring and a reluctant husband.
…that it is not a ticket to a work-free life.
…that a government grant for providing for your baby should not be used to get a new tv.
…or spent on feeding you in every fast food outlet in town.
…that just because a child is in a pushchair in the open air it does not mean the cigarette being smoked above it won’t filter down to that child’s lungs.
…that it should be harder for teenagers to fall pregnant.
…that parenthood is an honour and a privilege.
…that it should not be entered into lightly.
…that it should be easier for women in their thirties, who are settled and do not rely on the State to provide for them, to fall pregnant.
…that parenthood is an honour and a privilege.
…that it should not be entered into lightly.
…that being a parent means I have a responsibility to raise you to the best of my ability.
…that I am required to teach you right from wrong.
…that I am required to see that you are clothed and fed adequately.
…that I am required to spend time with you.
…that I am required to care for you and not hurt you in any way.
…that parenthood is an honour and a privilege.
…that it should not be entered into lightly.
…that it is hard, oftentimes demoralising and very tiring.
…that it is the most rewarding thing I will ever do.
…that I love it (almost all of the time).
…that I am more excited about being your Mamma than I have ever been about anything.
…that I love you more than anyone will ever love you.

Fantastic… I wish more people agreed. What a better world this would be if this was the prevaling culture of our times…

Domestic Goddesque says
Very kind of you to say so Kat.
It makes me sad that so many people are now from a history of such bad parenting that the real joy and job of having a child has gone from sight.
This is very powerful π
What a powerful and great piece about parenting. Brilliant writing xx
