Moments in Motherhood….

I’m not doing very well with this blogging malarkey of late. The trip to the States has completely messed with The Girls’ body clocks so we’ve been up at all hours, eating at all hours, sleeping at all hours. It seems that anything more than a couple of hours’ time difference really plays havoc with a child’s system, so clawing back five of the blighters is proving to be a long battle. We had friends down to The Beach House in a bid to exhaust our kids so completely that their body clocks just reset. It’s amazing to think that children are happy to strip off and frolic in the sea in Britain in October: they are far less wussy than their respective mothers, who would have been more than happy to sit in the cafe and eat cake, if only the dads hadn’t been off playing golf.

I suspect that the slightly skewed sense of time is the reason that, the day after this photo was taken, and after I had *gasp* got on a bike for the first time since I was fifteen (of which more another time. I’m still staggered that I didn’t spontaneously combust quite frankly.) we were systematically attacked by an evil stomach bug. 24 hours after mine began, I garnered the strength to drop the Pocket Dictator at nursery, where a very helpful teacher informed me that it was ‘doing the rounds’, so I sat and waited until it had systematically caused every member of the DG household form a lasting bond with the loo, including the Dimpled One who I had to bath at midnight as she had showered herself, along with her most precious blankie, in vomit. This woke the PD who also demanded to go in the bath and, as my poor longsuffering DH was also incapacitated, it was easier to say yes than argue. Then we all curled up in my bed together, the girls and I, read a story and fell asleep. It’s the first time, again since I was about 15, that I have woken up in yesterday’s vomit-covered clothes. Definitely a Moment in Motherhood. It made me that there are many more that I have to look forward to. Perhaps you could tell me what to look out for?
