How to make a quick hat for New Year’s Eve

There’s such a big build up to Christmas that I always find New Year’s Eve is overlooked, yet it is only seven days after Santa visits. We won’t get back to the UK until just before New Year’s so will need a few quick ideas for crafts to make to see in 2013.

These hats are ideal: made from pipe cleaners and doilies they are the work of minutes. Simply cut a doily in half and form a cone. Thread a pipe-cleaner through the holes, attach to another and create a loop that fits round the head, as with the Swedish Headbands.

 easy New Years hats

You can also use pipe-cleaners to make simple numeric glasses- just fold into the date (I needed two to make 2013), add a pair of arms that fit round the ears et voila!

Or how about these stylish party hats from Paper Source?

Whimsy Love has some fabulous pipe-cleaner tiaras that appeal to my fondness for pipe cleaners.

A little more challenging but perfect for my princess-loving girls are the lace crowns at Rook No. 17.

As far as decorating goes, I fully intent to recycle our Christmas cards into a New Year Banner, taking an idea from Mari’s World. What phrase to use, though?

And this little New Year countdown craft by Carolyn’s Homework couldn’t be more perfect.

Nor could these lovely glittered candles from Celebrations.com

Red Ted Art, as you might expect, has some super crafts specific to New Year traditions in other countries. Check out the dear little marzipan pigs and 12 grapes!
